Samsung has officially unveiled its Galaxy Ring smart ring at Mobile World Conference 2024. The Galaxy Ring, which was initially teased during Samsung’s Unpacked event in January, is a wearable device focused on health and well-being designed to take on competitors like the Oura Ring.
Features and design
Although Samsung initially shared few details about the Galaxy Ring, the company has now provided more information. The ring has a minimalist yet substantial design and will be available in platinum, silver, gold, and ceramic black.
According to TheVerge, the ring feels lightweight when worn and comes in sizes 5 to 13, with markings from S to XL inside. The battery size also varies depending on the size of the ring, ranging from 14.5 mAh to 21.5 mAh.
The Galaxy Ring will have a set of sensors to track various health indicators. Although Samsung has not yet revealed the full set of Galaxy Ring sensors, the company has partnered with Natural Cycles to track fertility, which is a key feature of the Oura Ring.
You can also expect the usual health features like sleep, heart rate, step count, and breathing tracking. Samsung says users will also receive personalized health tips based on their sleep data.
Another unique feature is Samsung’s “My Vitality Score”, designed to measure alertness and provide information about the user’s overall fitness. Feedback will be provided through “Booster Cards” with science-based advice that includes sleep and other health data.
Availability, price and compatibility
The Galaxy Ring will be integrated with Samsung Health’s existing ecosystem, including Galaxy Watch devices. Although the exact price remains unknown, the ring is scheduled to be released later this year.
Initially, the Galaxy Ring will be compatible exclusively with Samsung Galaxy smartphones. However, in the future, Samsung plans to expand compatibility with other Android and possibly iOS devices.
