QQ’s HarmonyOS version is rolling out a new beta update, version 9.2.73 (3518), inviting users to test enhanced features. This invitation-only upgrade, available through the Huawei App Gallery, requires users to have received a special SMS notification to proceed with the installation.
Key Enhancements in the Beta
The latest beta release brings several significant improvements and new functionalities to the QQ experience on HarmonyOS devices. Users can look forward to an optimized QQ group file sharing experience, making it easier to manage and share files within groups. A particularly exciting new feature is the introduction of ‘chain reactions’ or ‘solitaire’ expressions, adding a new layer of fun and expressiveness to chats.
Beyond the playful additions, the update also brings practical improvements. Chat functionality now includes intelligent number recognition, which can help users easily identify and interact with phone numbers or other numerical data within conversations. For users who enjoy sharing memories, the space album feature has been enhanced with AI-powered restoration capabilities, helping to bring old or damaged photos back to life.
Group management within QQ is also seeing an upgrade. The group mute function has been expanded to support both timed mutes and individual member muting, providing administrators with more granular control over group interactions.
QQ on HarmonyOS: A Growing Ecosystem
The QQ HarmonyOS app has already achieved a substantial user base, boasting over 54.9 million installations and an average rating of 2.4 stars from 49,000 reviews on the Huawei App Gallery. This indicates a strong adoption rate and ongoing user engagement with the platform on Huawei’s native operating system.
Currently, the HarmonyOS version of QQ supports a wide range of core functionalities that users expect, including:
- Single and group chats
- Multi-person voice and video calls
- Red packet (Hongbao) functionality
- Browsing friend dynamics in QQ Space
- Short video features
- Channels
- Scan QR codes
- Dual-device login for phones and tablets
The development of QQ on HarmonyOS is part of a broader trend of application ecosystem growth for Huawei’s operating system. Last year, QQ also officially launched a desktop version for HarmonyOS, featuring an interface style consistent with its Windows and macOS counterparts. This expansion across different platforms underscores QQ’s commitment to providing a seamless and integrated user experience for its vast user base, particularly those invested in the Huawei ecosystem.
The testing period for this beta update is scheduled to run from October 10th, 2026, to October 31st, 2026. Users who receive the invitation are encouraged to participate and provide feedback to help further refine the application.
