The 2026 World Superbike Championship (WSBK) is heating up as the eleventh round commenced at Portugal’s Estoril circuit. In a significant achievement for Chinese motorcycle manufacturer Zhang Xue Motorcycle, French rider Valentin Debise secured a commendable 6th place in the first World Supersport (WorldSSP) race.

A Challenging Start, A Strong Finish

Despite facing a difficult qualifying session, where Debise started from 17th on the grid after a crash, he and his teammate Federico Caricasulo (starting 16th) showed remarkable resilience. The pair, both astride Zhang Xue Motorcycle machines, had to battle through the field from the sixth row.

However, Debise’s performance in the main race showcased the potential of both the rider and the motorcycle. His 6th place finish is a strong indicator of the team’s development and competitive spirit in the highly contested WorldSSP class.

Looking Ahead to the Next Race

The action at Estoril is far from over. The second WorldSSP race is scheduled for tomorrow at 21:00, and Debise is poised for an even better result. He will be starting from the front row, having qualified in an impressive 3rd position, providing a significant advantage for the upcoming race.

Season Nearing its Climax and Future Outlook

This Portuguese round is the penultimate event of the current WSBK season. The championship will conclude the following week, from October 16th to 18th, with the final round taking place in Spain.

Excitingly for motorsport enthusiasts in China, the FIM and WorldSBK recently announced the 2027 calendar, confirming that WorldSBK will race in China for the first time. The Shanghai round, scheduled for October 29th, will serve as the season finale in 2027, marking a historic milestone for the sport in the region.

The strong performance by Valentin Debise on the Zhang Xue Motorcycle bodes well for the team as they head into the final race of the season and look towards future competitions, especially with the sport’s growing presence in China.
