The OPPO A58 is a smartphone with an exquisite design, a huge 6.72-inch screen, a powerful MediaTek Helio G85 chip, IPX4 protection, and a 50MP camera with artificial intelligence capabilities. In this review, we will see how interesting the model turned out to be.

The package

The user will receive the OPPO A58 in a classic modular box made of durable cardboard. The modularity itself is in two “things” – the packaging itself and the lid with large sides. So, we didn’t try to “reinvent the wheel” – everything was done classically and with high quality.

Of course, the box of a product is something that is sent for recycling immediately (or almost immediately) after unpacking. But even if the OPPO A58 packaging meets a similar fate, I think it’s worth taking a look at its design first, because there is interesting and useful information on the walls. This is what we will do next.

Information from the box walls

The “business card” of the model is on the right wall – the key features of the smartphone are listed in the form of a list.

Everything you need to know about the manufacturer and importer in Ukraine is on the sticker on the back.

Other “things” on the walls include the model name, the manufacturer’s logo, and other less noteworthy “details.”

The scope of delivery

Having familiarized yourself with the box itself and the information on its walls, it’s time to unpack the ORRO A58.

So, what’s inside the box:

  • OPPO A58 phone;
  • a protective film glued to the display from the box;
  • USB/USB Type C cable;
  • 33W charger adapter;
  • SIM tray access clip;
  • brief technical documentation.

Body materials

The first thing I personally liked was the weight! You must admit that less than 200 g (192 g) for a handset with a 6.72-inch display is very light. What is the secret? The answer, in fact, lies on the surface – the use of a considerable amount of polycarbonate in the case. By definition, the latter is surprisingly lightweight and at the same time has excellent wear-resistant properties. This is a plus!

There is a massive plastic edging around the perimeter – visually, by the way, it is very similar to metal.

The manufacturer covered the display with a protective glass, and the latter, in turn, with the aforementioned film.

Impressions on the build quality

The device is well assembled. No, really, there’s nothing to complain about – the well-thought-out layout, the details that don’t deserve any comments, the style of execution. This is something you will definitely like. In addition, I personally advise those users who are not yet familiar with the brand’s products to take a look at ORRO A58, because at least in these two points (materials and assembly) it looks much more interesting than many competitors.

Versions in colors

For the ability to “fantasize” with the names of colors, the Chinese have a special plus in karma:

  • shining black;
  • magical green.

I personally do not know what exactly inspired the manufacturer’s designers to come up with these shades, but even under a slight slope, the shine behind our black panel is really noticeable. Thus, this idea is more likely to be true than vice versa. I’m sure the magical green will not disappoint its future users either.

Design

Looking at the appearance of the A58, you make an obvious conclusion: “OPPO has learned to work in this direction”. No, I don’t think it was uninteresting before. But it used to be more uniform, which is not the case now. From model to model, we see fresh, interesting ideas and their bold implementation. And in this regard, OPPO A58 is no exception. This is a truly new look at industrial design in the smartphone segment.

About ergonomics

I don’t know about anyone else, but I personally liked two things here: the design of the main camera unit and the implementation of the front camera. The latter, by the way, is “sewn” into the display. It looks really cool. It also takes good photos with its 8 megapixels.

The front panel of the OPPO A58 is divided between the screen, three classic touch buttons, as well as the aforementioned front camera and earpiece speaker.

The design behind is a “bomb”! Two powerful platforms of the main camera unit are connected by a glass pedestal. Attention is guaranteed 100%. If possible, we will talk separately. In addition to the cameras, there is also a sticker with various technical data, as well as markings, the OPPO logo and other interesting “things”.

On the side panel on the right is a paired volume button and a power off/on button. The manufacturer has implanted a fingerprint scanner in the latter.

Finally, at the bottom are USB Type-C and 3.5 mm connectors, a tiny slot for the built-in microphone, and a speaker.

The left edge is notable for the “landing pad” for the SIM card/memory card container.

Display

OPPO A58 has an impressive 6.72-inch screen with a resolution of 2400×1080 pixels or FHD+.

  1. It is based on an LTPS matrix. Peak brightness is 680 nits; typical brightness is 550 nits.
  2. The screen occupies 91.4% of the top panel.
  3. The pressure sampling rate is 180 Hz.

The color gamut in bright mode is 100% DCI-P3; in soft mode – 100% sRGB.

The pixel density is 391 ppi, which means that there is no hint of graininess on the panel. The color depth is 16.7 million colors (8 bits).

Impressions of working with the screen and settings

The screen used in ORRO A58, in my opinion, is surprisingly good. The information is readable clearly, including from viewing angles, there are no “overflows” in the direction of warm or cold. The situation is similar for the shades – neither frankly white under the slopes, nor frankly blue. In short, I repeat, I was personally satisfied in this regard.

The sensor for automatic backlight adjustment works correctly – I checked it personally. The responsiveness of the screen is also a strong point of this smartphone model. Separately, I would like to note the ability to control with 10 fingers at the same time.

Among the interesting things in the settings is the ability to select a light or dark mode, automatic or manual brightness adjustment, setting the color mode on the screen and other interesting “things”.

Built-in memory

The amount of built-in memory in ORRO A58 is 128 GB. How much of this is available to the user out of the box is shown in the illustrations below.

The ability to expand the built-in memory

In addition to various cloud services, the user can expand the above capacity using microSD cards or a USB drive. As for the maximum capacities, there is no official data on this subject, but I have proved through testing that it is at least 128 GB in both cases, and we did not have external drives with a larger capacity in our office. But at the same time, I admit that this is not the maximum possible.

Speakers

OPPO A58 has two separate speakers – an earpiece and a loudspeaker. As for the location of both, see the illustrations below.

Settings and sound quality

As for the sound quality, everything is cool, and even without discounts or conventions, both during conversations and sounding out various content – audio, video, streams, game effects, and so on. No, I was actually pleasantly surprised by the speaker’s capabilities while watching a video from the A58 in the park in the last warm days of October. I also liked playing on the street in the presence of the audience, who, by the way, also noted the good sound quality. In my opinion, video without headphones will also work for you.

As for the settings in the corresponding item, the most interesting are “Real Sound Technology”, “Volume Button Function”, “Default Device” and “Personal Monitoring”. Personally, all of them are not new to us, we have considered them in more detail in the review of the ORRO A78 smartphone. The illustrations are below to remind you.

Battery

The capacity of the built-in battery is 5000 mAh.

Battery life

The battery life was tested using the Battery HD application. With average consumption, the phone lasts for one day. According to the test, you can listen to music for 22 hours, watch videos continuously for 5 hours, talk on a 4G network for 6 hours, Wi-Fi Internet for 7 hours, and mobile Internet for almost 5 hours.

Battery charging speed

The proprietary 33W charger adapter can charge the A58 in just an hour, and a 5-minute charge will allow you to get 3.39 hours of continuous talk time, which is very good.

Operating system

As a software platform “out of the box”, the user will receive A58 running the proprietary ColorOS 13.1, which is based on Android 13. The key features of this software platform were discussed by me in the review of the OPPO A78 smartphone, here is the link.

Pre-installed applications

Among the pre-installed applications are Phone Clone, Music Party, Netflix, all popular Google client services, etc.

Hardware

“The heart of the system is an 8-core MediaTek Helio G85 processor with a clock speed of up to 2 GHz. The graphics in this “bundle” is Mali G52 MC2 with a frequency of 1 GHz.

The model is available with 6 GB of RAM or 8 GB of RAM, as we have. In addition, it is worth noting the possibility of expanding the “regular” volume by another 8 GB. See the illustrations below to see how it’s done.

Performance

Below are the results of testing the performance of the OPPO A58 system with the “standard” amount of RAM.

Camera capabilities

The main dual camera system consists of the following elements: – 50 megapixel module; f/1.8; 75.5° viewing angle; 5P lens; auto focus is supported; – 2 megapixel mono camera; f/2.4; 89.1° viewing angle; 3P lens; fixed focus.

What do we have? In short, even with a mediocre lighting level of the subject, you can still achieve good results. In bright natural light, the shooting quality will be sufficient for printing photos.

Front camera – 8 megapixels; f/2.0; 80° viewing angle; 4P lens; fixed focus.

Expert opinion

To summarize, we have a noteworthy model with hardware under the hood, which is enough for comfortable operation of the handset in multitasking mode, fast battery charging, good sound quality, a clear screen, and very good camera capabilities.

The OPPO A58 phone costs about 8,500 UAH (∼230 USD).
