Nintendo has slightly changed its sales forecasts for the Switch 2, despite the fact that demand for it seems to be off the charts. In its latest earnings report, the company predicted sales of 15 million Switch 2 consoles in the first year of sales by March 2026, which is less than analysts had predicted – 16.8 million. The company did not explain this figure, but it is likely due to uncertainty about tariffs in the US and the fact that Nintendo is usually cautious in its forecasts.
Sales of the Switch 2 started with a bang, as resellers sold out immediately, and Nintendo said that its own pre-orders might not arrive until after the June 5 launch. This suggests that there is a lot of pent-up demand for a new model after the Switch’s eight-year existence, but last month Nintendo postponed pre-orders due to concerns about Trump’s tariffs on electronic goods. Despite its concerns (and customer complaints about the $450 price tag), the company has received 2.2 million pre-order requests in Japan alone, a number that Nintendo says is “well above our expectations.”
To date, Nintendo has sold more than 150 million Switch consoles, including 17.79 million in the first 13 months – so Switch 2 is on a similar pace, even by the most conservative estimates. Either way, it should be a great year, as sales have skyrocketed (up 30.3 percent year-over-year), as expected with the new console coming up.
