In 2023, Huawei Ukraine, with the support of the Foundation for Educational Initiatives, donated server equipment to the educational needs of the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” (KPI), and on March 13, 2024, a trilateral meeting was held to discuss the effects achieved.
Thus, innovative equipment helped to upgrade the KPI server cluster by almost 30%, which ensured the operation of more than 600 virtual systems of the university. Thanks to the modern equipment Huawei, the speed of access to information resources located on the servers has doubled.
Access and security
“To support the continuity of the educational process during the martial law, Huawei Ukraine has donated equipment – Wi-Fi points, servers and routers – to many Ukrainian universities. We have given KPI a server that can also be used as a learning tool for students, for example, to perform laboratory work, and will also strengthen KPI’s own network,” says Volodymyr Bilavka, Deputy Director of Human Resources at Huawei Ukraine.
Thanks to the increased communication power, students can connect to high-quality Wi-Fi on campus at any time, and the educational process will continue without forced interruptions. Huawei’s new technology solution will not only help students master cybersecurity skills and manage Wi-Fi equipment at a high level, but also protect the university’s network.
Innovation of the educational process
During 2023, Huawei Ukraine provided the university with 550 modern access points, which allowed it to create the largest Wi-Fi cloud. Huawei access points provide signal continuity and are powered directly from an uninterruptible power supply unit, which guarantees more than 4 hours of battery life.
Currently, more than 300 access points have already been installed in Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute academic buildings, shelters and dormitories. This is especially important during the defense of PHD theses, as the defense involves a live broadcast that should not be interrupted.
“Huawei equipment received as part of long-term cooperation, both communication equipment and equipment for our laboratories, has improved the quality of the educational process and ensured the digitalization of other aspects of the university’s functioning,” said Anatoliy Melnychenko, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
According to him, server equipment allows diversifying risks under martial law, and equipment for laboratories at the faculties of radio engineering, electricity and automation has provided students with the latest technologies, significantly adding innovation to the educational process.
“And this, in turn, allows us to train highly qualified specialists for the Ukrainian economy,” adds the vice-rector.
