Amazon will use AI to remember what you watch

Have you ever started a series, stopped it in the middle of the season, and then tried to get back to it because you had no idea where you left off or what happened? Amazon can help you. The company has just launched a new tool for Prime Video that uses artificial intelligence to create personalized reviews.

X-Ray Recaps uses generative AI to create “short, easy-to-digest summaries” of entire TV seasons, individual episodes, or even parts of episodes. All of this is personalized, so the summary will be accurate to “the exact minute you’re watching.” The company promises “short text snippets of key cliffhangers, character-driven plot points” and other details.

Adam Gray, vice president of product at Prime Video, says the tool will help users “quickly return to what they were watching or rediscover why they fell in love with a series in the first place.” It’s powered by Amazon Bedrock, the company’s own AWS service for building and scaling artificial intelligence applications. For those worried about spoilers, the AI is trained to avoid them at all costs.

This is an extension of the already existing X-Ray feature, which offers trivia and information about actors during a stream. I love this tool and am constantly surprised that other streamers haven’t implemented something similar.

X-Ray Recaps is launching today for Fire TV users, albeit in beta. Other devices will receive support by the end of the year. Currently, it only works with content from Amazon MGM Studios, such as Download, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Wheel of Time, and The Boys.
