Netflix is adding a new way to watch with subtitles. Starting with the fifth season of the psychological thriller You, dialogue-only subtitles will be available alongside standard descriptive for the deaf and hard of hearing (SDH/CC).
In case you don’t already know, SDH/CC subtitles include not only dialogue but also audio cues such as [alarm clock ringing], [knocking on the door], or [jukebox music from “Don’t Stop Believing”]. Netflix’s new option cuts out these non-dialog audio descriptions.
You will find only dialog subtitles in the Netflix language list marked as “English”. Meanwhile, SDH/CC subtitles will remain as “English (CC)”. The company says that, with the exception of the fifth season of You, the new subtitle type will be available on all future Netflix originals in all languages it supports for SDH/CC subtitles.
