Chinese navigation app Gaode Maps has announced full compatibility with Apple’s forthcoming iPhone Duo smartphone. The company plans to introduce a pioneering split-screen navigation feature, set to be a world first for devices of this form factor.
The adaptation for the iPhone Duo’s novel design encompasses optimizations from visual display to user interaction. Gaode Maps will ensure seamless switching between the device’s internal and external screens, as well as automatic layout adjustments based on device orientation, whether portrait or landscape.
Split-Screen Navigation Innovation
The most groundbreaking development will be the split-screen navigation function, specifically engineered for the iPhone Duo’s flexible display. This feature will allow for simultaneous display of detailed lane-level navigation alongside navigation that incorporates SD (likely referring to specific data transmission standards or advanced map rendering modes).
Multitasking and User Convenience
Gaode Maps also highlights the multitasking capabilities of the iPhone Duo. The app will remain readily accessible on demand, enabling swift transitions between Gaode Maps and other applications without losing context. This is particularly beneficial for users who rely on navigation instructions while simultaneously performing other tasks on their smartphone.

iPhone Duo: Specifications and Market Demand
This news emerges amid reports of surging demand for the iPhone Duo. Supply chain data indicates that Apple has already boosted its shipment forecast for its first foldable smartphone by 44% over the next 12 months, revising the initial plan of 9.7 million units to 14 million.
In some regions, expected delivery times have already been pushed to January 2027, suggesting that initial order volumes significantly exceed current production capacity.
The iPhone Duo, Apple’s inaugural foldable smartphone, began pre-orders on October 16th, with pricing in China starting at 15,999 yuan.
The device features a 7.6-inch internal display with a resolution of 1878×2670 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate, housing an under-display camera. The external display measures 5.4 inches with a 1398×2034 pixel resolution, also supporting 120Hz. Both screens offer Always-On Display functionality and peak brightness up to 3000 nits outdoors.
Performance and Software Features
At its core, the iPhone Duo is powered by the A20 Pro processor, paired with a large vapor chamber (VC) cooling system. The manufacturer claims this configuration delivers 35% higher performance compared to the iPhone 17 Pro. The device leverages its expansive screen with a vertically oriented app panel on the home screen and intuitively placed controls for thumb accessibility.
The iPhone Duo supports simultaneous dual-app operation and a half-folded screen mode, allowing it to function as a calendar, alarm clock, or tabletop speaker.
The integration of Gaode Maps with the iPhone Duo promises to unlock new possibilities for users, particularly in navigation experiences on flexible-screen devices.
