China’s Software Industry Sees 9.2% Revenue Growth

China’s software and information technology services sector is showing robust performance, with a 9.2% year-on-year increase in revenue for the first seven months of 2026. Total software business revenue reached 8,978.5 billion yuan. The industry also saw a stable rise in total profits, which grew by 1.3% to 1,039.6 billion yuan. Furthermore, software business exports maintained positive growth, climbing by 12.2% to reach 40.61 billion US dollars.

Key Sector Performance

Within the sector, software product revenue experienced steady growth, increasing by 6.3% and accounting for 21.6% of the total industry revenue. Foundational software products saw a 9.4% rise, while industrial software products grew by 8.4%.

Information technology services demonstrated strong double-digit growth, with an overall increase of 10.0%. This segment now represents 68.7% of the industry’s total revenue. Notably, cloud computing and big data services combined achieved a 12.3% revenue increase, making up 16.7% of the information technology services revenue. The design of integrated circuits experienced a significant surge of 21.5% in revenue. E-commerce platform technical services also contributed with a 5.1% growth.

Other areas showing positive trends include information security, which saw a 6.2% increase in revenue for products and services. Embedded system software also reported a healthy 10.5% growth in revenue.

Regional Contributions

Geographically, the eastern, central, western, and northeastern regions of China reported software business revenue growth rates of 9.0%, 14.6%, 9.1%, and 4.9%, respectively. The eastern region continues to dominate, accounting for 83.9% of the national software business revenue.

Specific economic zones also showed strong performance. The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region saw an 8.4% increase in software business revenue, while the Yangtze River Delta region reported a 10.2% growth. These two regions collectively represent 26.4% and 29.9% of the national revenue, respectively.

In terms of individual provinces and municipalities, Beijing, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shanghai, and Shandong led the nation in software business revenue. Their respective year-on-year growth rates were 8.3%, 9.3%, 9.3%, 10.5%, and 7.0%.

Overall, the data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) highlights a dynamic and expanding Chinese software industry, driven by strong performance in both software products and information technology services, with significant contributions from key economic regions.
