XPeng Motors is set to roll out a significant update to its second-generation VLA (Vision-Language-Audio) system, with a new version scheduled for release in September. This update will be available for all Ultra and Ultra SE model vehicles. Additionally, a lighter, distilled version, VLA 2.0 Lite, is also slated for its first push in September, with the XPeng G9L Max version being the first to feature this optimized variant.

Enhanced AI Capabilities for Smarter Driving

The second-generation VLA is built on a unified technical foundation, enabling seamless integration from L2 to L4 autonomous driving capabilities and paving the way for further advancements in higher-level autonomous driving. XPeng emphasized that through its innovative learning-based token compression and distillation training methods, the system can achieve high-quality visual understanding with fewer tokens, without compromising input information or model capacity.

This efficiency allows the core capabilities of the second-generation VLA to be deployed on platforms with lower computing power. As the foundational model continues to improve, the distilled Turing VLA 2.0 Lite also sees a corresponding enhancement in its performance.

Introducing X-Foresight and Infini-VLA

A major highlight of the VLA 2.0 update is the debut of X-Foresight, XPeng’s predictive world model, which is making its first appearance in a production vehicle. X-Foresight is designed to anticipate events up to six seconds into the future and predict the potential behaviors of surrounding traffic participants. This proactive approach to understanding the driving environment is a significant leap forward in safety and decision-making for autonomous systems.

Furthermore, the new VLA version incorporates the Infini-VLA long-term temporal architecture. This feature allows the system to retain memory of the world state for up to 30 seconds, providing a much longer context for driving decisions. By accessing more historical information, the VLA can make more informed and nuanced judgments, crucial for complex traffic scenarios.

Commitment to Intelligent Mobility

XPeng has consistently focused on developing intelligent driving technologies, aiming to provide users with safer, more comfortable, and efficient mobility experiences. The continuous evolution of their VLA system underscores this commitment. The introduction of VLA 2.0 and its Lite variant demonstrates XPeng’s strategy to balance cutting-edge AI performance with practical deployment across a wider range of their vehicle models.

The September rollout of these advanced features signifies an important step in XPeng’s roadmap, bringing enhanced predictive capabilities and longer-term contextual understanding to their electric vehicle lineup. Drivers of Ultra and Ultra SE models can look forward to a more intelligent and responsive driving experience.
