XPeng Motors is set to enhance the intelligent driving capabilities of its vehicles with the upcoming rollout of the second-generation VLA Lite distillation version. This new software update is scheduled to begin in September and will be available for Max models equipped with a single Turing chip.

G9L Max to Debut New VLA Lite Version

The XPeng G9L Max version will be the first to feature the second-generation VLA Lite distillation version of the Turing intelligent driving system. This announcement was made during XPeng’s recent Physical AI sharing session and a hands-on experience day for the new VLA version.

Advancing Autonomous Driving Capabilities

XPeng highlighted that the second-generation VLA is built on a unified technical foundation, enabling a seamless transition from L2 to L4 autonomous driving capabilities. This development signifies a significant step forward in the company’s pursuit of higher-level autonomous driving solutions.

Optimized Performance with Distillation Technology

The company explained its innovative approach using learning-based token compression and distillation training. This method allows the system to achieve high-quality visual understanding with fewer effective tokens, without compromising input information or model capacity. By deploying the core capabilities of the second-generation VLA base model onto platforms with lower computational power, XPeng ensures that even these systems benefit from enhanced performance. The distilled Turing VLA 2.0 Lite version also sees an improvement in its capabilities as the base model strengthens.

This advancement in AI and software optimization is crucial for XPeng as it continues to compete in the rapidly evolving electric vehicle market, where intelligent driving features are becoming a key differentiator for consumers.
