Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 is a smartphone that is interesting for many reasons. First of all, it has a large 6.67-inch screen with a pixel density of 395 ppi, a powerful 8-core processor, a protective case, and a main camera with as much as 108 megapixels. And all this is offered for less than $250. At the same time, this is the base model of the Redmi Note 13 line.

I’ll tell you what else is interesting about the new product, and where you can buy it with this price tag in this review. So, let’s get started!

The box

To begin with, the user will receive a smartphone in a compact cardboard box, which I personally called simply “classic module” – the box itself, where everything is placed, is equivalent in size + the same lid. Everything is white with a minimum of inserts of other colors. The material used for the packaging is durable cardboard. This solution is also classic and has proven itself over time, and time is the best authority.

Of course, the box of a product is something that is sent for recycling immediately (or almost immediately) after unpacking the product. But even if the packaging of Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 suffers a similar fate, I advise you to pay attention to the information on the walls, because the manufacturer has already included some interesting data about the model here. More on that below.

Information from the box walls

The most interesting thing on the lid of the box is the inscription Supports NFC. Yes, although NFC support, including for mid-range devices, is not unusual today, it is nevertheless a good thing, in my opinion. On the front there is an illustration of the model, the manufacturer’s logo and the name of the smartphone.

The side walls are notable for two stickers on which the manufacturer also put the name of the product, the version with the amount of RAM and built-in memory, as well as the serial number, some company data, labeling, and other interesting “things.”

The scope of delivery

And here I will throw a stone in the direction of OPPO, which in its latest smartphone models (see reviews in the relevant section of our website) “forgot” about such a necessity as the same case, and in the review of the OPPO Pad Neo tablet about the charger adapter. There are no such “savings” in the Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 package. Opening the box, we get the following “things”:

  • Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 smartphone (in our case, Ice Blue color);
  • 33W charger adapter;
  • USB-USB Type C cable;
  • branded case;
  • protective film (from the box on the front panel);
  • a paper clip to open the SIM card container;
  • documentation.

Case materials

Let’s start, of course, by noting the really interesting format of the material used in the Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 case. It’s a multilayer plastic. In the end, it turned out to be extremely durable. I’ve seen a similar, let’s say, “thing” in the reviews of the OPPO A58 and OPPO A78 smartphones. I’ve been using the former for more than six months now, and so far there have been no visible consequences of its use. In short, even if you use Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 without a case, with careful treatment, the safety of the factory appearance is guaranteed for a long time. Although the case is already in the “standard” configuration.

The perimeter edging is also plastic. Yes, its format is slightly different, but the quality, subjectively speaking, deserves a higher rating.

There is a protective glass on the front, which the manufacturer has reinforced with an additional film. The film, as we remember, is already “out of the box” glued to the panel, and therefore no “movements” in this direction are required on the part of the user.

The edging of the camera lenses and the flash at the back is already metal. The latter, as you can see, is minimal, and this has a positive effect on the weight. At more than 188 grams, the handset nevertheless weighs almost nothing in the hand. The model remains comfortable even during prolonged use, and this is its additional advantage. Not the main one, but a significant one.

And finally, “two words” for the material of the buttons on the side faces. We have a classic duo – the volume control and the power button. Both are made of plastic. There are no questions about the quality here – the format is successful.

Impressions on build quality

The body of Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 is assembled with high quality. If you ask me whether it is possible to make a comment to the manufacturer here, at least in the format of a subjective criticism, the answer will be no – Xiaomi has long learned to make good cases, although, as we can see, they do not stop there. Of course, individually for each price division. I had the opportunity and time to look for ways to save money here, but all attempts in this regard were unsuccessful. Well, that’s nice!

Body protection

A separate item that is also worthy of your attention is the IP54 protection of the case, that is, against dust and water splashes. Yes, on the one hand, it’s nothing extraordinary – one way or another, almost every phone has been exposed to rain or dust without further negative consequences. On the other hand, it is unlikely that the entire operating period will be without these consequences, and therefore the above-mentioned protection will definitely not be superfluous.

Versions with colors

In Ukraine, according to Allo, Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 is available in three versions – black, blue (like ours) and green.

Impressions of the design

Personally, it’s hard to impress me with the design of a model in the mid-range price range, and Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 is no exception. At the same time, I can’t help but say that some individual “details” here add an interesting charm to the model.

The first is the massive perimeter frame. It seems to be nothing so special. But visually, it seems that this frame protrudes slightly above the back and front panels, adding a kind of protection to them. And although in fact it’s just a visual effect, it looks interesting nonetheless.

Weight. For me, this parameter is important – despite the noticeable dimensions, we are buying a communication device, and it is very desirable that it does not weigh like a stone. And here, many manufacturers can take the Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 as a model when it comes to making a lightweight and at the same time reliable case.

I also liked the front camera in the display in this arrangement.

I also liked the protection of the huge cameras at the back. Reinforcement in this regard is definitely needed here and it was done successfully, both from a practical and visual, let’s say, “point of view”!

So, the front panel of the smartphone is “divided” between the front camera, a miniature speaker slot, and three more touch buttons located at the very bottom.

The body of the rear lens has two huge lenses. Next to them is another lens, and a powerful flash complements this, let’s say, “quartet”. In addition to the above, there is also a 108MP signature, a sticker with several ribbons of technical data, and a marking at the very bottom.

The power on/off button is located on the side panel on the right. Next to it is a paired volume control key.

The opposite edge has neither buttons nor connectors.

At the top end, first of all, there is a rather interesting solution with speakers. The fact is that Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 has two speakers – one on the bottom edge and one on top. In addition to it, there is an infrared port, a 3.5 mm jack + noise-canceling microphone.

Finally, the bottom end is notable for the built-in earpiece microphone, USB Type C port, and a SIM card holder. Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 does not have a “seat” for memory cards.

The display

In my opinion, Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 has a great 6.67-inch screen based on an AMOLED matrix. The resolution is 2400×1080 pixels. There’s also an impressive 120 Hz refresh rate and 240 Hz sampling rate (gaming mode up to 2160 Hz), and gamers will appreciate it.

The pixel density is higher than the reference – 395ppi.

Another cool feature of the display is its 100% DCI-P3 color spectrum coverage and peak brightness of 1800 nits. And let’s not forget about the 4096 levels of backlighting, because it guarantees that your eyes will not get tired even after several hours of viewing in a row.

Settings and impressions of working with the screen

Let’s start with the settings. In the corresponding submenu, the user can activate the light or dark mode to choose from. In the “Brightness mode” sub-item there is a corresponding slider for manual adjustment, and besides it, there are two automatic settings. By the way, the latter work absolutely correctly. The “Reading Mode” is also interesting. Here you can adjust colors according to several specified conditions. You can also set time intervals for automatic switching.

It is also worth taking a look at the features of the “Color scheme” subsection, as it has a fairly wide range of tools for working with color saturation.

Separately, you can adjust the font and text size, as well as use your smartphone in VR mode.

The touch panel is very responsive – the reaction is good, including to a cursory touch. I would also like to note the support for 10-finger control.

Viewing angles are excellent in either direction. No color deviation is observed, even at maximum tilt angles.

Bright sunlight on the screen does not degrade the quality of data transmission, which, in my opinion, is also worthy of attention.

Built-in memory

Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 is available in one version with 256 GB of internal storage. Let’s see how much of it the user gets out of the box and how much the system has “selected” for itself in the illustration below.

Built-in memory

Expanding the built-in memory

You can expand the built-in storage using a variety of online cloud storage services.

The Battery

The capacity of the built-in battery is 5000 mAh.

Autonomy capabilities

Battery life testing was performed using the Battery HD application. The results are shown below.

Charging speed

The battery is charged from a 33W adapter and takes 70 minutes from a few percent remaining to “hundreds”. You must admit that this is a good result.

Built-in speakers

Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 has two speakers – located on the top and bottom ends, respectively.

Sound quality and settings

In the case of Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 speakers, we have really great sound in all respects, both during conversations and content playback. Excellent volume, good mids, slightly less pronounced, but not at all critical lows – all this is undoubtedly interesting. There is also relatively good detail on instruments, which I personally also want to draw your attention to. Thus, “at the output” we have all the conditions, including for watching videos in the park or over coffee, even in a company – it will be comfortable.

Conversations via Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 will not disappoint you either. Yes, when making calls in the subway or other equally noisy places, the level of comfort will be somewhat different, but these are the conditions of these places. Under normal conditions, no complaints.

As for the settings, the most interesting in the corresponding submenu are “Sound Assistant” and “Sound Effects”. The first of these contains tools that allow you to customize the sound of media in several programs (it plays a role in quality), and in several sound sources. The second one is about working with equalizers, sound effects, etc. Below, we’ll detail everything in the illustrations.

Operating system

The operating system under the hood is MIUI Global 14.0.2. I’ll put an ellipsis here for now, because very soon we will have a detailed review of MIUI Global 14.0.2 on our resource – there we will talk about all the advantages and features. For now, a small illustrative detail of the interface.

Hardware under the hood

“The heart of the system is an 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 685 operating at up to 2.8 GHz. It is accompanied by Adreno 610 graphics and 8 GB of RAM. The internal storage, as I said, is 256 GB.

Pre-installed applications

As for the applications in Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 that are preinstalled on the smartphone out of the box, we have the following, let’s say, “arsenal”:

  • all mobile clients of Google services;

  • full “regular” package: calculator, watch, voice recorder, scanner, Mi Remote, etc.

calculator, watch, voice recorder, scanner, Mi Remote

  • TikTok, Facebook, Spotify, Linkedin etc.

TikTok, Facebook, Spotify, Linkedin

System performance

Next, let’s get acquainted with the results of testing the Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 system.

Camera capabilities

As for me, the triple 108 megapixel camera of the smartphone is a very cool addition to the capabilities of Xiaomi Redmi Note 13. In practice, it allows you to get quite good results, especially in good sunny conditions, although not only. Details of the settings menu are in the illustrations below.

Expert opinion

As a result, we have a surprisingly balanced smartphone model with a really great combination of a well-thought-out body, advanced hardware inside, a good approach to sound organization and a win-win (at least for this price category of smartphones) display. One of the best mid-rangers with features that will interest even the most demanding users.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 8/256GB now costs 9299 UAH (USD 247).
