Xiaomi has made great strides with Leica, and is now releasing the biggest camera update yet for the Xiaomi 14 series. Xiaomi has recently started offering powerful camera hardware in its flagship series. However, it seems that Xiaomi is now also trying to address some of the shortcomings in its camera software.
Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro – AISP camera update
Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro have started receiving this update, which updates the security patch to 2024-03-01. The version number of the update is OS1.0.36.0.UNCCNXM, please note that this update is being released in China first. Although this is a small update of 159MB, there are some changes to the camera app and the list of changes is as follows:
- Added Master Portrait function, portrait mode supports two image styles Master Portrait and Leica Portrait
- The effect of ultra-sharpness in portrait mode has been optimized
- Optimized super sharpness effect in portrait mode
- Optimized beauty effect in portrait mode
- Xiaomi AISP, a new large model computational photography platform with artificial intelligence, improves the quality of portrait photography
The update’s changelog shows that Xiaomi has focused on improving the portrait mode, enhancing many effects and adding a new feature called “Master Portrait”. One of the most notable aspects highlighted in this changelog is “Xiaomi AISP”, which indicates Xiaomi’s efforts to improve its computational photography algorithms.
Although this update was initially released for the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro, it will soon be extended to the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. Unlike other OEMs, Xiaomi offers a variety of effects in portrait mode that actually mimic Leica lenses used in real Leica cameras, and it does so quite successfully.
