Redmi Turbo 3 launches in China with Snapdragon 8s Gen 3

Today in China, Xiaomi has held an event to unveil a new Redmi smartphone and tablet. Redmi Turbo 3 follows last year’s Redmi Note 12 Turbo. The Xiaomi sub-brand has switched to a new moniker under the Turbo series. It is positioned as a flagship killer in the mid-range price segment, and this is quite justified based on its specifications. The Redmi Turbo 3 has significant upgrades over its predecessor, the Note 12 Turbo.

Specifications and features of Redmi Turbo 3

Redmi Turbo 3 retains the same design as its predecessor. It has a flat frame with slightly curved corners and two protruding camera rings. The device is 7.8 mm thick and weighs just 179 grams. Redmi claims that the phone has five-star drop protection according to the SGS standard.

In terms of display, the Redmi Turbo 3 boasts a large 6.67-inch OLED screen surrounded by ultra-thin bezels and integrated with a fingerprint scanner. The display has a resolution of 1.5K, a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a peak brightness of 2400 nits.

The triple rear camera of Redmi Turbo 3 consists of a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-600 main sensor with OIS and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens. The front camera has a 20-megapixel front camera for selfies. The smartphone has an AI-based object erasing feature, similar to Pixel’s Magic Eraser, that removes any unwanted elements from images.

Under the hood, the Redmi Turbo 3 is powered by a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor, which is a toned-down version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It has up to 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. A large VC area and Xiaomi’s Ice Cooling system are provided for heat dissipation during intensive and prolonged use. The smartphone is powered by a 5,000 mAh battery with 90W fast charging support.

Redmi Turbo 3 runs on Android 14 operating system based on HyperOS. It features Air Gestures, which allows users to conveniently control their devices from a distance without touching the screen. This is useful when taking selfies or if you have wet hands. There are also various other AI features on the device such as live subtitles, AI-assisted recap, and more. The connectivity options on the smartphone include USB-C, WiFi-7, Bluetooth, NFC, and more.

Price and availability of Redmi Turbo 3

The price of the Redmi Turbo 3 starts at 1,999 yuan (~276 USD) for the base 12GB + 256GB version. The 12 GB + 512 GB and 16 GB + 512 GB models cost 2,299 yuan (~$317) and 2,499 yuan (~$345), respectively. The top-end 16 GB + 1 TB version costs 2,799 yuan (~$386).
