Vodafone has fully equipped its GPON network equipment with alternative power sources that will ensure the operation of services for 72 hours. To support Ukrainians in difficult economic times and help them choose a stable energy-independent connection, the operator offers users to test energy-efficient home Internet that works even when there is no power in the house.
Try Gigabit
As part of the “Try Gigabit” promotion, all subscribers who order a connection to Vodafone Gigabit Net in June 2024 will receive the first 30 days of use without a monthly fee. The offer will allow new subscribers to test the possibilities and experience all the benefits of high-speed Internet access.
“Due to the constant damage to the energy infrastructure by the Russian aggressor, Ukraine is once again facing rolling blackouts. Residents of many cities have already felt how difficult it is to work, study, monitor the situation in the country or keep in touch with their families without stable Internet. We have a positive experience of backup services during long blackouts, in particular in Kharkiv, Dnipro and Odesa, and positive feedback on network stability from subscribers in all cities where we operate,” said Sergey Skrypnikov, CEO of Vega, which is responsible for fixed line communications at Vodafone Ukraine.
Therefore, according to him, Vodafone provides users with the opportunity to test the service during outages so that everyone can check the quality of services on their own experience. Even during peak load months, the operator received the highest index of consumer loyalty and willingness to recommend the company’s services (NPS), so it is confident in offering its customers a trial period.
Where the service is available
The service is available in Kyiv, Odesa, Lviv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Mykolaiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Vyshneve and Chornomorsk. You can check your connection on the Internet map during blackouts. After the end of the promotional period, the base price in the tariff will be valid.
Vodafone Gigabit Net data only costs UAH 250 per month ($6.25), and with IPTV services it costs UAH 300 ($7.5) and 325 ($8.1), depending on the number of channels and content.
What you need
To use the high-speed optical Internet, you must install a subscriber terminal. Vodafone provides this equipment to its customers at no additional cost.
The technology is energy-efficient because there are no active elements that require power between the operator’s equipment and the user, so it is much easier to provide all equipment with alternative sources. The client equipment is installed directly in the apartment, and if the subscriber powers up his equipment and the operator powers up his, the Internet will work even during a power outage.
Thanks to the reliability and bandwidth of GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network), it provides speeds of up to 1 Gbps, which is 10 times faster than the usual 100 Mbps. In the future, it can be easily upgraded to XGS-PON, which allows to increase the data transfer rate to 10 Gbps.
