SwitchBot’s low-cost, adjustable smart roller blinds are finally on sale. First announced in September, SwitchBot roller blinds are now available at switch-bot.com and claim to be the world’s first adjustable smart blinds. This means that you don’t have to worry about taking the right measurements before ordering, as you can adjust the width of both the frame and the blind fabric to fit your window frame after purchase. Smart blinds start at $199 and are very cheap.
Smart motorized blinds are very convenient. They can be programmed to open and close automatically at specific times of the day or based on sunrise and sunset, and with an optional sensor, they can adjust based on the temperature and light in the room. SwitchBot curtains work via Bluetooth and are compatible with Matter, which means they will work with Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and other smart home ecosystems through the SwitchBot hub.
SwitchBot’s approach is to let you do most of the work at home by providing an adjustable headrest and a dedicated cutting tool. Once you’ve set the correct size, you attach the cutting tool to the end of the lampshade and scroll it until it’s cut the entire length. Judging by the Switchbot installation video, it looks pretty easy, but it’s also pretty time-consuming. Personally, I prefer to have this part done by a professional, but if you’re really worried about your measuring skills, it’s good to have this option.
The SwitchBot Roller Shade is battery-powered, and the company claims that a single charge lasts for eight months of use. It can be charged via a USB-C cable or with a separate solar panel that costs $30. The latter also adds a light sensor that allows you to automate the operation depending on the light level.
