Samsung details about Exynos 1480 for Galaxy A55

Recently, Samsung released the Galaxy A55 smartphone with the Exynos 1480 processor. However, the company did not reveal many details about the processor during the launch. However, Samsung has now revealed the full picture of what this chip is capable of.

The Exynos 1480 boasts a hybrid processor configuration with four powerful 2.75GHz Arm Cortex-A78 cores for demanding tasks and four 2.0GHz Cortex-A55 cores for better power efficiency.

The star of the show, however, is the Xclipse 530 GPU based on AMD’s RDNA architecture. According to Samsung, it improves graphics performance by 53% over the previous generation.

The Exynos 1480 has a built-in AI Engine with a 6K MAC NPU, which is part of the artificial intelligence technology. Although this is a less powerful version than the flagship Exynos 2400 processor, it makes the Galaxy A55 capable of supporting the AI features found in the Galaxy S24 series. However, this depends on whether Samsung releases the corresponding One UI 6.1 update for the device.

Wireless connectivity is handled by the Exynos 1480 processor, which supports Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6E, 5G up to 6 GHz, mmWave 5G and LTE Cat. 18 for fast and versatile connectivity.

In addition, the chip can work with displays with a resolution of up to FHD+ with a smooth refresh rate of 144 Hz and has the necessary power to work with a single 200-megapixel sensor (64 megapixels at 30 frames per second, 32 megapixels + 32 megapixels at 30 frames per second).

The chip can easily encode and decode H.264 video at 4K 60 frames per second. Memory and storage support extends to LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage for fast performance.

Based on a 4nm process, probably Samsung’s own 4LPP+, the Exynos 1480 has improved power efficiency compared to previous generation chips.
