On the night and morning of January 2, the ruscist federation repeated a massive attack with various missiles and drones, as it did three days earlier on December 29, 2023.
The Kremlin has once again attacked civilian and critical infrastructure, industrial and military facilities. The main target of the attack is Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine.
Attack by drones
In the first wave, they attacked with “shaheds” from the southeast, with further movement to different regions of Ukraine.
Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed all 35 Shahed-136/131 strike UAVs, as reported by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Missile attack on January 2
In the morning, the enemy used strategic aviation – Tu-95MS bombers. 16 aircraft reached the launch line at about 6:00 a.m. and launched at least 70 X-101/X-555/X-55 air-launched cruise missiles.
Starting at 07.30, air defense forces recorded the launch of ten X-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles from MiG-31K fighters.
The enemy also attacked from the sea with three Kalibr cruise missiles, and from the north with 12 Iskander-M/S-300/S-400 missiles flying on a ballistic trajectory.
Four X-31P anti-radar missiles were fired from Su-35 tactical aircraft.
Destruction of missiles
According to the preliminary results, the enemy used 99 air attack weapons – missiles of various types.
The Air Force, in cooperation with the Ukrainian Defense Forces, destroyed 72 air targets:
- 10 out of 10 X-47M2 Kinzhal aerial ballistic missiles;
- 59 out of 70 cruise missiles X-101/X-555/X-55;
- 3 of 3 Kalibr cruise missiles.
Thus, 27 missiles unfortunately hit civilian and military targets.
Destruction of houses and infrastructure
One of the rocket fragments hit a high-rise building in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district. Rescuers, firefighters, and medics are now working at the scene. There are already two dead. Forty-three people have been hospitalized. All emergency services are working at the scene.
“A temporary warming center has been set up near the house, where people are being provided with the necessary assistance,” said Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
The rocket attack also damaged buildings in Podilskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, Pecherskyi, Obolonskyi, and Desnianskyi districts. Emergency services are working everywhere.
As a result of the attack, residential buildings in some areas of the city have no electricity or water supply. Utilities are currently working to restore them.
In total, air defense forces destroyed 61 missiles in Kyiv and the region, including about 10 “Daggers”. And before that, 13 “Shaheds” were shot down at night.
Two car dealerships burned down in Kyiv’s Podil district after a Russian attack – 29 cars burned to the ground, and 5 more were damaged. In addition, a gas pipeline valve and a water pipe were damaged. Relevant services are working at the scene.
As a result of the Russian terrorist attack on residential buildings in Kharkiv, one person was killed and 45 wounded, including five children aged 6 to 13. This was reported by the mayor of the city, Igor Terekhov.
