Redmi K80 series is rumored to receive Snapdragon 8 Gen 4

Redmi K80 series is rumored to receive Snapdragon 8 Gen 4

Redmi launched the K70 series back in November last year with Xiaomi’s new HyperOS running on the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The 6.67-inch 2K (1440 x 3200) AMOLED panel with up to 4000 dot resolution cost only 2499 yuan (~352 USD) at launch. This creates expectations for the upcoming Redmi K80 series.

According to previous rumors from the teepster “Smart Pikachu” (translated from Chinese), the company is focusing on premium hardware for the Redmi K series, and as a result, there may be only two models this time – Redmi K80 and Redmi K80 Pro. The successor to the more affordable Redmi K80E may be released as a Redmi Note series device.

Now, the source noted that the progress in the development of the Redmi K80 series has accelerated. Reportedly, the device will have a 5500 mAh battery, which is 500 mAh more than its predecessor.

Speaking of the display, it will also have a 2K resolution like the Redmi K70 and Redmi K70 Pro. However, he did not mention the peak brightness level. Looking at the industry trend, we can expect even higher localized peak brightness support.

According to the source, the Redmi K80 series is also expected to come with different SoCs for the standard and Pro models – Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and 8 Gen 4, respectively. This is in line with what we saw in the Redmi K70 series – SD8G2 and SD8G3 for the standard and Pro models. It was also previously reported that the Redmi K80 and Redmi K80 Pro could be equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. In addition, the phone is reported to have a glass back and a metal frame.

If the use of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is true, the phone could be released in November, or at least not before October, which is the expected month of release of the upcoming flagship Snapdragon chip. There is no information about the price yet. We’ll let you know as soon as we find out about it.
