Porsche plans to stay on the gas car market

Porsche is not yet ready to abandon its gas caps for charging ports. According to Automotive News Europe, the company plans to release more models with internal combustion engines due to the slowdown in electric vehicle sales. Lutz Meschke, the automaker’s CFO, told the publication: “Obviously, we’re going to stay with the internal combustion engine for a lot longer.”

As noted by Car and Driver, he also said that there is a “clear trend in the premium luxury segment” that is leaning towards gas engines, and as a result, Porsche will “respond” to this in its product cycle.

Porsche sells two expensive electric vehicles: Taycan and the recently launched Macan. The company had planned to launch more electric-only models, including the Cayenne 718 and a new high-performance SUV. But now Meschke says that Porsche may produce hybrid or internal combustion engine versions of these electric vehicles, and they are “in the process of making conceptual decisions.”

Earlier, Porsche planned that by 2030, 80 percent of its sales would be electric models. This year, the company pushed out the RWD Macan and redesigned the Taycan as sales of electric vehicles in the US plummeted and in China, where domestic brands produce cheaper electric vehicles, things are not going well.
