OPPO Pad Neo is a brand new tablet from a well-known Chinese manufacturer, which was announced a few weeks ago. The novelty is interesting for its good display, modern hardware, really good sound, and fast charging support. But is it worth recommending it and who is the audience for this product?

But let’s talk about everything in turn. The first thing I personally noticed was the size of the box for an 11.4-inch tablet – in my understanding, it should be something quite large. There is nothing of the kind here – the package, although with the appropriate width and length, is quite thin at the same time. You must admit that it looks unusual at least.

As for the design, everything is as OPPO likes it – a restrained style, no bright inserts, no product illustrations, and no unnecessary information. And why should we – after all, we’re buying a tablet, not packaging.

However, there are still a few lines of useful data, and they are worth paying attention to. More on that below.

Information from the walls of the box

No long-windedness here. While the lid only has the name of the product on top, the back contains information about the manufacturer, suppliers to different European countries, as well as labeling, serial number, RAM and built-in memory, etc.

OPPO Pad Neo package contents

  • tablet;
  • USB to USB Type C cable;
  • a short user manual;
  • warranty card;
  • A paper clip (in my case, to access the SIM card/memory card container).

But the absence of a charger adapter, in my opinion, looks like a saving on the part of the manufacturer. I immediately recall the “story” with OPPO Enco Air3i TWS headphones, which “forgot” to include a cable. Yes, the accessory is inexpensive, it’s not a problem to buy it separately, and probably almost everyone has something alternative in their personal possession, but one way or another, in both cases, we buy a device with a complete set.

Body materials

OPPO Pad Neo’s body is a combination of metal, glass, and some plastic. The latter, which is nice, is in the minority here – only a glossy, although more precisely, a mirror insert in the upper part of the back panel. By the way, if the aforementioned insert is not very interesting in practical terms, the addition looks good from the point of view of decor.

The front glass covers the display and the entire front panel. The manufacturer does not specify its protective capabilities, but the test period (about three weeks) proved in its own way that this material has good protective features. I used it without a case, transported it in a backpack, often next to other things, though without sharp corners. As a result, there were no scuffs or anything like that.

In addition to the back insert, the buttons on the side faces are also made of plastic.

The edging of the main camera is metal. The lens is covered with glass, which is not inferior in quality to the aforementioned material covering the display.

Build quality

Personally, I liked everything about it – from the case thickness of only 7 mm to the materials chosen and the level of fit of the parts – without discounts or any other “conventions”. The work was done competently and with 100% knowledge of their craft. Period!

Body colors

OPPO Pad Neo is available in one color – “space gray”. There is no information about versions in other colors yet.

Impressions of the design

OPPO Pad Neo has an elegant streamlined body with a great combination of materials. In addition, OPPO Pad Neo is a surprisingly thin tablet. So, you must admit, with a display diagonal of 11.4 inches, a thickness of less than 7 mm looks really interesting. Thirdly, and this is also worth noting, this model is surprisingly comfortable for the hand. With a weight of more than 500 grams and the corresponding dimensions (which is surprising), we have a really comfortable product.

If necessary, the user can purchase a branded smart case for this model.

The resolution of the 11.4-inch screen is 2408×1720 pixels. The frequency is 90 Hz. The aspect ratio is 7:5. According to official data, this ratio provides increased comfort. In addition, it is worth noting the 96% NTSC color gamut and peak brightness of 400 nits.

Impressions of the screen

There is only one convention here, which, in my opinion, does not play a big role. We are talking about the presence of a small graininess. I can’t say that it’s a big problem, because it doesn’t cause any discomfort at all. Nevertheless, there is grain here and we will take this fact into account.

As for the responsiveness, everything is fine without exceptions; 10-finger control is available at the same time.

As for the settings, the corresponding submenu offers the following arsenal: the ability to select a dark or light mode, adjust the brightness manually or set up an automatic mode, enable the “Natural Hues Mode” section, and so on. Here you can also set the timeout for automatically turning off the screen, the refresh rate, and choose a wallpaper. You can also work with colors, and in the Eye Comfort and Sleep submenu, set up a comfortable mode for night work, and so on.

Now for the impressions. Viewing angles are excellent in any direction, regardless of horizontal or vertical tilt. What’s nice is that even at the maximum tilt, the colors do not go into a frankly white or blue tint.

The sensor responsible for automatic backlight adjustment works correctly, and if you try it yourself, you will agree that I am right.

As for data transmission when the sun hits the panel, I personally consider the screen’s capabilities to be sufficient. Yes, there is some deterioration of the display, but it is far from the definition of “critical”, and therefore the discomfort is minimal.

Built-in memory

OPPO Pad Neo is available in one version with 128 GB of internal storage. How much is available to the user out of the box is shown in the illustrations below.

Expansion options

The user can expand the aforementioned capacity with microSD cards up to and including 1 TB. In addition, you can connect a USB flash drive using a suitable adapter. Also, do not forget about various cloud services.

OPPO Pad Neo has as many as four built-in speakers located on the horizontal side panels.

Settings and sound quality

In addition to the classic “Do Not Disturb” and “Silent Mode”, the user can adjust the volume of multimedia, ringtones, notifications, etc. in the corresponding settings menu. Here you can also set up a notification signal and select a ringtone. More interesting is the Dolby Atmos subsection, which allows you to select a sound profile for the appropriate environment. Details are shown in the illustrations below.

In the “More” submenu, the “Volume button function” is available (you can choose whether you want to adjust the volume of multimedia or ringtones.

As for the sound quality, it is almost the full spectrum – bass, volume, and the rest of the frequency spectrum are also well expressed. As a result, we have a great option for watching videos, conferences, and so on. No additional accessories for sound – you and the people around you will have more than enough OPPO Pad Neo capabilities. I was able to check the latter personally.

The capacity of the built-in battery is 8000 mAh.

Separately, the manufacturer notes the support for 33W SUPERVOOCTM fast charging.

Battery life

Performance testing was performed with the help of the Battery HD application. Below are the results.

“The “heart” of the system is a 2 GHz 8-core MediaTek Helio G99 processor, which is accompanied by Mali-G57 MC2 graphics and 8 GB (in my case) of RAM. The latter figure can be doubled by the user. Without going into theoretical technical issues, below is a visual “algorithm” on how to do it.
