Rakuten Viber collected data on blocking calls from spammers and scammers in 2024. Compared to the same period in 2023, the number of such calls and complaints about them has significantly decreased:
- In 2024, about 90 thousand Ukrainians received calls from spammers or fraudsters. This is 80% less than in the first 10 months of 2023.
- The total number of users who reported spam or fraud in 2024 was about 4 thousand. This is 16 times less than in 2023, when more than 59 thousand Ukrainians filed complaints.
- Rakuten Viber blocked 2.5 thousand spammers and scammers in 2024. From January to October 2023, this number was more than 37 thousand, which is 15 times more than this year.
A significant reduction in the number of fraudsters was made possible by Subscriber Identification. The feature prevents attacks by intruders and reduces the number of complaints. You can turn it on in Settings -> Calls & messages -> Caller ID (for Android users only).
The Rakuten Viber team also reminds you of other basic features that will help protect you from scammers:
- Messages from unknown contacts: It is more convenient to manage requests from unknown contacts in a separate folder. This will limit interaction with potential spammers. To enable the feature, go to Settings -> Privacy;
- Automatic spam checking, which can be enabled in Settings -> Privacy;
Restrictions on adding to groups only contacts from the phone book (Settings -> Privacy).
