NASA recruits new astronauts for $152,000 and a chance to see Mars

If you’re not a student, you’re probably working or perhaps looking for a job. After years of studying, graduating from university and maybe even getting a master’s degree, what kind of job will really satisfy you? For a tech enthusiast, the answer may lie in Silicon Valley giants like Apple or Microsoft, or perhaps in the bustling tech manufacturing centers in China. But if you have even bigger dreams, there is an opportunity that is literally out of this world. NASA is looking for potential astronauts to Mars! Here are the details…

NASA has announced an exciting new job opportunity for those who dream of becoming an astronaut. On the program’s website, the space agency states: “For more than sixty years, NASA astronauts have been flying into space, and since 2000, they have maintained a permanent presence there.”

The agency also emphasizes its ambitious plans for the future: “NASA’s Artemis program is now preparing to land the first woman and the next man on the moon. The Orion spacecraft atop a Space Launch System (SLS) rocket will take humans further into space than they have ever gone before – for missions to the Moon and eventually Mars.”

NASA also reported how much an astronaut earns. According to the organization, space explorers will receive an annual salary of $152,000. Although this is a fairly substantial income, for many, it’s not about the money, but rather about the work experience. However, if you like both, there is no reason not to apply, of course, if you meet the necessary qualifications.

  • Being a U.S. citizen
  • Hold a master’s degree* in a STEM field, including engineering, biological sciences, physics, computer science, or mathematics, from an accredited institution
  • Have at least three years of relevant professional experience gained after graduation (or 1,000 hours of flight time, of which at least 850 hours on high-performance jet aircraft for pilots) For physicians, time spent in residency may be counted as experience and must be completed by June 2025.
  • Be able to successfully complete the physical training of a NASA astronaut for a long flight

The master’s degree requirement can also be fulfilled:

  • Two years of work on a doctoral program in a related field of science, technology, engineering or mathematics
  • Completed Doctor of Medicine, Osteopathic Medicine or related medical degree
  • Completion (or current enrollment that will end by June 2025) of a nationally recognized pilot school program.

Of course, these conditions are not easy to fulfill. Nevertheless, even for a topic that was once a dream, such as spaceflight, our ability to create ads online underscores the obvious impact of technological advancement on the pace of progress.
