Meetings in Microsoft Teams are getting a new translator feature that lets each participant speak or listen in the language of their choice. Teams Translator uses real-time language-to-language translation powered by artificial intelligence to mimic your voice in meetings.

In early 2025, a preview version will be available that will include up to nine languages and the ability for the translator to mimic your own voice in another language.

This is part of a series of AI-powered changes coming to Microsoft Teams. Meeting transcription will soon support multilingual meetings, so that up to 31 translation languages will be supported for meeting transcription.

In early 2025, Microsoft is also announcing the ability for teams to understand and play back any visual content shared on screen from PowerPoint or from the web during meetings, along with the usual transcripts and chat summaries. Copilot will also be able to create a quick summary of any files that have been shared in the Teams chat interface, so you don’t have to open the entire file.

Microsoft is also using Copilot Plus computers to enable Teams Super Resolution, which uses the local NPU chip to improve the quality of video calls. This can improve the quality of communication with colleagues when you’re calling over a weak internet connection. Windows app developers will also be able to use similar ultra-high-resolution APIs to improve blurry images in January, along with Copilot Runtime updates such as image segmentation, object erasure, and image description features.
