Meta Quest to add single-window screenshot to VR soon

A “sharing” feature for Meta Quest VR headsets has been spotted in the operating system code, but has not yet been launched. The new feature could allow you to share the view of individual 2D windows on your headset with other Quest users, UploadVR reports.

In a post on X, a VR fan known as Luna, who writes extensively about headsets, did a deep dive into Horizon OS code and found a line inside version 76 with text that looks like a hint for the “share” feature, which “shares the panel so other users in your world can see it,” and the opposite line “do not share.”

UploadVR suggests that this feature could allow you to share things like your web browser or other windows in your virtual home. Quest already has some sharing capabilities: you can share first-person or mixed reality VR videos with others. YouTube VR also already allows Meta Quest users to watch videos together. But there are currently no other apps that allow you to share a specific two-dimensional window.

Luna compared this new feature to Apple’s SharePlay feature on VisionOS, which supports several apps, including Hulu, Max, Apple TV Plus, and others. Meta did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
