Louvre to stop renting Nintendo 3DS audio guides in September

In a few months, you will no longer be able to rent a Nintendo 3DS to guide you through the Louvre and tell you about the exhibits there. Nintendo Everything spotted a post on the Louvre’s official website stating that the audio guides for the Nintendo 3DS console “will cease to operate in September 2025.” It also states that the 3DS will be replaced by a new system, but the museum has not yet revealed more details about this. Will the Louvre replace the 3DS with a Switch or a more traditional audio guide device? I guess we’ll find out in a few months.

Since 2012, the Louvre has offered audio guides for the Nintendo 3DS, which can be rented for 6 euros. It can tell you about the exhibits in English, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, German, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese. It can also tell you about the history of the palace, not just the artwork in it, and provide access to high-resolution images of selected artworks so you can zoom in and see the smallest details. But if you’ve ever gotten lost in a large museum, you might find the geolocation tracking feature to be its best feature. The Louvre is huge, with 782,910 square feet of space, so it’s quite possible to get lost and not find your way out when you need it most.
