LinkedIn finaly gets rid of the live sound feature

Remember when real-time audio suddenly became ubiquitous at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic? This trend was made popular by the short-lived viral phenomenon of Clubhouse, before seemingly every other online platform copied the feature for themselves.

Since then, live audio has become mostly a memory of a strange time when we were all simultaneously stuck at home with nothing to do and listening to hours-long streams of strangers talking to each other as entertainment. Now LinkedIn, which is a bit late to the live audio party in 2022, has decided to get rid of its offline live audio events.

In an update, the company says it will no longer support native audio events starting next month. Users will not be able to create new events from December 2, and previously scheduled events will stop working after December 31. Instead, the company is “aggregating” audio events using LinkedIn Live’s live streaming feature. LinkedIn Live, however, requires authors to use third-party tools to set up streams. So while audio streams will still be able to exist on LinkedIn, they will have to take a few extra steps.
