LG has found a new job for your desk lamp

LG has brought a lamp to the CES 2025 exhibition that serves as a small garden. The “indoor gardening appliance” is designed for apartment dwellers or those who do not have their own backyard to enjoy the benefits of homegrown produce.

According to LG, during the day, the lamp with a round shade shines LEDs with five different intensity levels on the plants you want to grow. And at night, the light is directed upward, creating cozy lighting in any room wherever you place the lamp. If you’d prefer a more compact, armchair-height fixture, LG also offers a version the size of a side table.

According to LG, the taller standing fixture can hold up to 20 plants at a time, and the entire setup is height adjustable so you can accommodate large leafy greens or small herbs and flowers. The real beauty of LG’s design is that you don’t have to worry about watering. A 1.5-gallon reservoir is built into the base of the lamp, which can spray the appropriate amount of liquid for what you’ve planted. Both lamps are also connected to the LG ThinQ app so you can remotely adjust the lighting and watering schedule.

At CES 2022, LG unveiled its previous version of its home gardening tool, the LG Tiiun. That larger refrigerator-shaped device could also automatically grow and water plants, but was much less aesthetically pleasing than the company’s new lamp. With all the features it has on board, LG’s new lamp is just one Sonos speaker away from becoming the ultimate living room device. At least until tech companies find other uses for lamps.

LG’s new indoor gardening device has no release date or official price yet, but the company is expected to share more details after CES 2025 officially begins.
