Since February 2022, Kyivstar has expanded its 4G coverage to more than 4.4 thousand settlements. Today, Kyivstar high-speed mobile Internet is available to more than 95.6% of the population in the territory controlled by Ukraine.
Kyivstar is actively developing its telecommunications network and expanding 4G (LTE) coverage, as strengthening network resilience and building the digital infrastructure of Ukraine is a top priority for the operator. Today, Kyivstar 4G is available to more than 95.6% of the population in the territory controlled by Ukraine.
Modernization and construction of base stations
Kyivstar has the largest number of 4G base stations deployed in Ukraine, excluding the temporarily occupied territories, as evidenced by internal data and reports of telecommunications operators to the National Commission for the State Regulation of Electronic Communications, Radio Frequency Spectrum and Postal Services (NCEC).
To achieve these results, more than 18,700 modernization works were carried out and more than 7,000 new base stations were built during the full-scale invasion alone.
The expansion of 4G coverage continues even in small towns and villages across Ukraine, as well as along highways. In particular, in 2024, 4G coverage was launched in 15 new settlements in Ivano-Frankivsk region, 36 in Lviv region, and 38 in Vinnytsia region, etc. The highest 4G coverage rates are in Kyiv region (99%) and Dnipropetrovska region (98%).
In addition, 225 new technology sites were built along the roads in 2024. In total, Kyivstar provides high-quality 4G coverage on more than 12.8 thousand kilometers of Ukrainian roads of international and national importance.
The main advantages of 4G are high data transfer speed, stable connection and large network capacity. This provides a more comfortable environment for users to access online services, which is very important for remote work, education and telemedicine.
Investing USD 1 billion
Over five years (from 2023 to 2027), Kyivstar plans to invest USD 1 billion in the development and restoration of Ukraine’s digital infrastructure. The announcement was made during the International Conference on the Restoration of Ukraine in June 2024.
It is worth noting that the additional radio frequency spectrum in the 2100 and 2300 MHz bands received by Kyivstar as a result of the NCEC auction in November will be a significant boost to the expansion of 4G coverage.
