JD.com’s 1 Mall (formerly 1 Mall) is rolling out significant changes to its membership program starting October 28th. The adjustments focus on how members earn rewards and unlock monthly benefits, aiming to enhance value for its premium users.
Key Changes to Shopping Rewards
The most prominent shift is in the shopping rebate system. Previously, members received coupons for purchases exceeding 200 yuan. Under the new rules, this will be replaced by a direct cash-like reward called ‘gift money’ (赠金), calculated as a percentage of the order amount.
- Premium Card Members (尊享卡): Will receive a 2% rebate in gift money.
- Standard Card Members (普通卡): Will receive a 1% rebate in gift money.
There are monthly caps on these rewards: 500 yuan for Premium members and 200 yuan for Standard members. Each unit of gift money is equivalent to 1 yuan and can be used to offset purchases. However, certain special products will not be eligible for this rebate or for being paid with gift money.
Transition for Existing Members
To accommodate existing users, 1 Mall has outlined a phased approach based on renewal channels and timing:
- Old Users Renewing Before Oct 28: Those who activated their membership before October 28th and have not renewed within the 1 Mall app will continue to enjoy the original ‘200 yuan purchase for coupons’ benefit until their current membership period ends.
- Renewing Within 30 Days of Expiry: Members whose membership expires and renew within 30 days via the app can choose between the old coupon system or the new gift money rebate.
- Renewing After 30 Days or New Purchases: Users renewing after the 30-day grace period, or those purchasing a new membership card after October 28th, will be subject to the new gift money rules.
- Renewals via Other Channels: For renewals through channels like JD PLUS, the benefits will be as stated on the card and product detail pages.
Revamped Monthly Exclusive Benefits
The ‘Monthly Exclusive Benefits’ (每月尊享权益) have also been revised. Previously, members could redeem eggs or milk after a 49 yuan purchase. The new system offers a choice each month:
- A 10 yuan no-threshold subsidy coupon.
- Two 6 yuan shipping fee coupons.
- Other exclusive product redemptions.
Members can claim one of these options once per month. The first month is exempt from any spending requirement. For subsequent months within the current membership term, members must have accumulated a total actual payment of 19 yuan to unlock the benefit redemption eligibility.
1 Mall notes that these new benefits will be gradually rolled out starting October 28th, and users who don’t see them immediately should expect a push notification.
Expanded Health and Lifestyle Perks
Premium members will see an expansion in health and lifestyle benefits:
- Health Services: Includes 2 online consultations, 1 accompanying visit service, and 1 fast-track hospital registration.
- Lifestyle Services: Exclusive discounts are available for car insurance, car maintenance, home cleaning, appliance cleaning, and more.
These health and lifestyle perks are scheduled to begin rolling out around October 28th, with specifics to be detailed in the member center.
Context and Background
This isn’t the first time 1 Mall has tweaked its membership rules since 2020, when JD.com transformed it into a paid membership-based select supermarket. Earlier iterations of the ‘Monthly Exclusive Benefits’ had less stringent requirements, such as needing only to pay a 6 yuan shipping fee for a single redemption of eggs.
1 Mall operates primarily as an online membership store, leveraging JD.com’s robust supply chain and logistics network, enabling same-day or next-day delivery for most products in major cities. The official pricing for an annual Premium Card is 198 yuan, and the Standard Card is 99 yuan.
