If you’ve been experiencing unusual battery drain issues on your Pixel phone lately, Instagram may be to blame. In a new support message, Google says that Instagram has updated its app to address this issue.
The fix is contained in Instagram version 382.0.0.0.49.84, which you can download from Google Play now. If you don’t see an option to update the app, it may already be installed. You can check this by pinching the Instagram app, tapping “App info,” and then scrolling to the bottom of the page to find the version number.
It appears that Instagram may be responsible for the battery drain complaints on Pixel devices following the Pixel software update earlier this month. 9to5Google reports that when asked about the battery drain issue, Google pointed to a support message announcing an Instagram update. In mid-May, the publication wrote that the issue seemed to affect all Pixel models that received the May update, from the Pixel 6 to the Pixel 9. It’s unclear if other Android phones have experienced the same problem, or if Instagram was indeed the main culprit.
