Tesla for iPhone supports Live Activities for recharging

The latest update to the Tesla iOS app allows users to view the progress of their car’s supercharging on the phone’s lock screen, according to Not a Tesla App.

This feature takes advantage of Apple’s Live Activities feature, which gives apps the ability to display real-time updates on the lock screen, such as showing that an Uber is about to arrive or when your ParkMobile parking meter is about to expire. In the case of Tesla, it can keep you updated on your charging session and help alert you to move your car when it’s done to avoid idle fees.

Supercharger Live Activity shows you how much time is left in the session, the current percentage of charge, the estimated cost, the charging speed, and the amount of energy you’ve added. It is not currently displayed if you are charging at home or at charging stations other than Supercharger.

Supercharger Live Activities is available on the Tesla iOS app, version 4.45.0, in the App Store. This is the latest major addition to the app since Tesla included digital key support for the Apple Watch last December.

In addition to the iOS update, Tesla is also rolling out a new feature for some of its newer electric vehicles that can alert owners if they have forgotten their child in the car. The new “Child Left Alone” feature is currently only available in Europe, namely in the new Model 3 (mid-2023 and later), which includes radar in the cabin. Currently, the hardware can recognize people in the front seats instead of seat sensors, but now it also looks into the back seats. Tesla says that this technology will be introduced in other models and regions “later.”
