Identifying the work of artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly difficult as its capabilities and subtleties are constantly improving. This constant shift makes labeling AI-generated work even more important – something that is done in a fragmented manner. The latest development in this direction comes from Google, which will now use SynthID technology to label magic edited with Reimagine in the Magic Editor.
Google DeepMind launched SynthID in 2023, a technology that allows you to apply invisible digital watermarks to any content created using generative AI. The company has previously used it in such AI programs as Lyria, Imagen, and Gemini.
Now SynthID will literally fit into Magic Editor. The tool allows users to reimagine their photos by moving, erasing, or adding special effects to different aspects of the image. Reimagine is available to anyone 18 years of age or older who owns a Pixel 9 or later. Users who tap Reimagine can enter a prompt to change parts of the image. Google recommends entering specific simple phrases, such as “autumn leaves,” and then exploring potential options before choosing one. The only difference is that the image will now have a watermark from SynthID. Anyone can see it by clicking “About this image”.
