Google is testing a youthful look for Android 16

Google has announced the launch of a new colorful Android 16 interface for beta testers, 9to5Google reports. The QPR1 beta includes the Material 3 Expressive design language, which the company officially introduced last week, as well as new visuals for the launcher, notifications, lock screen, and a quick settings page very similar to Apple’s.

QPRs, or quarterly platform releases, tend to be more functional updates for Android compared to monthly security patches. Android 16 is expected to be available to everyone soon, and will be followed by the QPR1 update in the fall, which will add new visual touches.

Users with eligible Pixel devices, including the Pixel 6 and 9A, who are enrolled in the beta program will be able to access the new version as soon as it’s ready. However, if you are already participating in the Android 16 beta but would rather wait for the new design, you can opt out of the beta on the Android Beta website (note: do not install a system update afterwards as this will wipe your device’s data – just wait until Android 16 officially launches).
