Google Calendar is now available for Apple Watch

After abandoning watchOS a few years ago, Google has only offered a handful of apps for the Apple Watch. That list expands to four with the launch of the new Google Calendar app, which launches alongside the existing iPhone version, as spotted by 9to5Google.

Apple’s native calendar app on watchOS includes customization options that allow you to see alternative views, such as a weekly summary and a full month. The Google Calendar app, on the other hand, only shows the week’s events on your Apple Watch with time and location, and Google tasks as a simple list with the day of the week in the top corner as you scroll.

You can tap on an event to see additional details, but they are very limited. If you want to get more information, you will be prompted to “Open the calendar on your phone to see more”. According to 9to5Google, the app’s functionality is very similar to that offered on Wear OS devices.

Two home screen complications are also offered. Today’s date shows the abbreviated day of the week and date in a circle, while What’s Next, which can be a circle, rectangle, or Smart Stack widget, shows your next appointment. Both complications can be tapped to open the Google Calendar app for watchOS.

While this may be a welcome option for those who want to have as much Google as possible on their Apple Watch (Google Keep, Maps, and YouTube Music are the only other watchOS apps the company offers), the standard calendar app can already sync with your Google calendar and allows you to see more details for a particular event.
