In the wake of a significant disaster that struck the Gyirong Port area in Xigaze, Tibet, on August 26th, China Unicom has successfully deployed an emergency base station to re-establish crucial communication links. The disaster had severely damaged existing communication infrastructure, hindering vital rescue and recovery efforts. Addressing this critical gap, China Unicom announced the activation of the first emergency base station right at the border gate on August 30th at 1:30 PM. This new station extends network coverage up to 1.2 kilometers from the border, effectively eliminating a communication blind spot in this sensitive frontier region.
Seamless Network Sharing and Roaming
Demonstrating a commitment to comprehensive support, China Unicom’s emergency base station is not only serving its own subscribers but also extending its services to users of China Telecom and China Mobile. This is achieved through network sharing agreements with China Telecom and cross-network roaming with China Mobile. Overcoming Challenging Conditions
The deployment and setup of the emergency base station were not without their hurdles. The team faced considerable challenges due to continuous rainfall and slippery road conditions, which complicated the laying of fiber optic cables, the installation of equipment, and the crucial process of signal debugging.
