French digital health company Withings, specializing in digital health, has unveiled BeamO, a multi-purpose device that offers four key health checks in less than a minute, at CES 2024. BeamO combines the functions of a thermometer, electrocardiograph (ECG), oximeter, and stethoscope in one portable device.
BeamO review by Withings
BeamO is a small bar-shaped device that is easy to use. It has a joystick controller that allows you to cycle through its functions. The device also has a separate display, but you will need to use the companion app to control it while using the stethoscope.
BeamO has electrodes on the side that measure blood oxygen levels and heart rate, and can also perform a 1-lead ECG, similar to the Apple Watch.
It also has a temperature scanner that reads the temperature from your temporal artery and a piezoelectric disk that picks up acoustic sounds in your chest or back that you can share with your doctor during a telemedicine appointment.
Withings claims that BeamO can perform a full body scan in less than a minute and can alert you to things like fever, infection, and even possible cardiovascular problems like atrial fibrillation. The company also claims that BeamO could have a real impact on the field of telemedicine. The ability to take these basic tests at home could make it easier for people to visit a doctor remotely.
However, it is important to note that BeamO’s ECG feature requires FDA clearance, which means that the availability of this feature will not be immediate.
BeamO’s companion app, Health Mate, is also receiving a major update. The new app will allow up to eight users to track their medications and record their symptoms. This data can be exported to anyone you want to share it with, including your doctor.
Price and availability
BeamO is scheduled to launch in June 2024 and will cost $250. It’s a bit more expensive than some other home health devices on the market, but it also offers many more features.
