Any trip involves interaction between the driver and the passenger. Most of the time, the experience is positive, but there are also situations when something goes wrong. In order to protect the driver and passenger during the trip, Bolt has implemented special safety features that protect the driver’s personal safety and prevent unwanted or conflicting situations.
Features that protect the personal safety of the driver and passenger
- Emergency call – in the Bolt app, both the driver and the passenger have a special button that transfers the call to a single emergency number – 112. In any situation that may pose a threat to the life or health of the driver or passenger, Bolt recommends using the emergency call button first.
- Ability to share trip details – this feature allows passengers and drivers to share their route with a loved one so that they know where the car is and where the final destination is planned. This is useful primarily for safety reasons: your loved one can track your location in real time. This feature is also convenient for planning meetings, as your friend or acquaintance will always know how much time you still need to arrive at your destination.
- Driver rating is a general driver rating system. In this system, a taxi driver can have a rating from zero to one hundred. The rating score is determined not only by passenger ratings, but also by a number of different factors. If the driver’s rating falls below the acceptable level, he or she will first receive a warning, and then his or her account will be blocked.
- Driver and passenger separation is a feature that helps to avoid unwanted contacts. For example, when evaluating a ride, both the driver and the passenger can give a “one” rating and indicate the reason for this rating. If this is unsatisfactory behavior by the driver or passenger, the app will no longer offer them rides together.
Safety tips
The company also advises users to make sure that the color of the car, its brand, license plate, and driver’s appearance match the information provided in the app before getting into the car. If a passenger notices a difference in one of these factors, they are asked to report such cases to our support team, which will investigate the situation and take the necessary measures. Such feedback is very important for the company and helps us to respond quickly and make the Bolt platform even safer.
Sergiy Pavlyk, Head of Ride-Hailing at Bolt in Ukraine, notes:
“SOMETIMES THERE ARE MISUNDERSTANDINGS BETWEEN PEOPLE. THERE ARE SITUATIONS WHEN EMOTIONS TAKE OVER. DESPITE THE FACT THAT, ACCORDING TO BOLT STATISTICS, THERE ARE VERY FEW SUCH CASES, WE TRY TO INTRODUCE RELIABLE MECHANISMS TO PROTECT BOTH THE DRIVER AND THE PASSENGER AND TO KEEP THEM SAFE AT EVERY STAGE OF THE TRIP.”
According to him, the driver rating system eliminates drivers with low ratings before the trip. The ability to share trip details and the Emergency Call function provides an additional level of safety on the road. And the function of separating the driver and passenger helps to avoid possible conflicts in the future.
In addition to safety features that are constantly tested and updated, insurance is an important component of safe travel. Passengers and drivers are insured for up to UAH 2.5 million for all trips made using the Bolt platform.
