Tencent has announced that repair services for the domestic Chinese version of the Nintendo Switch console and its accessories will cease on December 31, 2026. This includes both the standard Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch OLED Model.

End of an Era for Switch Repairs in China

Gamers in China who own a domestic Nintendo Switch console will need to have their devices and accessories repaired before the end of 2026. Tencent, the operator of the Switch in China, has officially stated that all repair services for the console and associated peripherals will be discontinued on December 31, 2026. Those requiring repairs are urged to contact the customer service center before this deadline to arrange for service.

What’s Included in the Service Halt?

The decision affects not only the consoles themselves but also a range of important accessories. According to Tencent’s announcement, the following items will no longer be eligible for repair after the cutoff date:

  • Joy-Con controllers
  • Nintendo Switch Dock
  • Nintendo Switch AC Adapter
  • Nintendo Switch Pro Controller
  • Joy-Con Charging Grip
  • Nintendo Switch Charging Stand (Swivel type)
  • Ring-Con (grip sponge excluded)
  • Poké Ball Plus

This comprehensive list means that most hardware-related issues with the domestic Switch ecosystem will be unserviceable within China after December 31, 2026.

Network Services Already Ceased

This announcement follows the discontinuation of network-related services for the Chinese Nintendo Switch, which took effect on May 15th at 10 PM. This means that online multiplayer, eShop access, and other network-dependent features have already been shut down for the domestic version of the console.

Implications for Digital Games and Software

Tencent also highlighted a critical point for users experiencing hardware failures, particularly those requiring a motherboard replacement. The company stated that if a console’s motherboard needs to be replaced, users will lose the ability to re-download their digitally purchased games and any tool-based software. This underscores the importance of backing up digital libraries where possible and considering the implications of hardware failure on digital ownership, especially as the repair service window closes.

The end of repair services marks another step in the winding down of the Nintendo Switch’s lifespan in the Chinese market, managed by Tencent. While the console itself remains a popular gaming device, this development signals a shift in support and a potential challenge for users facing hardware issues in the future.
