GAC Group has released its financial report for the first three quarters and the third quarter of 2026, revealing a substantial net loss attributable to parent company shareholders. While total revenue saw a year-on-year increase, the company’s profitability remains a significant concern.

GAC Group’s Financial Performance: Q1-Q3 2026 and Q3 2026

For the first three quarters of 2026 (January to September), GAC Group reported total operating revenue of 74.545 billion yuan, marking a 12.48% increase compared to the same period last year. However, the net loss attributable to parent company shareholders widened significantly, reaching 6.987 billion yuan, a 62.04% decrease year-on-year. The non-recurring net profit also saw a substantial decline, down 80.17% to 8.603 billion yuan.

The gross profit for the period was a negative 0.713 billion yuan, with a gross profit margin of -0.96%. This indicates that the cost of goods sold exceeded operating revenue. Operating cash flow, while showing a year-on-year increase of 12.6%, still recorded a net outflow of 9.462 billion yuan.

In the third quarter of 2026 (July to September), GAC Group’s operating revenue reached 28.423 billion yuan, up 17.91% year-on-year. Despite the revenue growth, the net loss attributable to parent company shareholders was 2.52 billion yuan, a 42.09% decrease year-on-year. The non-recurring net profit loss for the quarter was 3.394 billion yuan, down 85.48%.

Analysis of Profitability and Costs

The negative gross profit margin of -0.96% for the first three quarters was primarily due to operating costs of 75.258 billion yuan exceeding operating revenue of 75.156 billion yuan. Research and development expenses amounted to 1.294 billion yuan. Notably, financial expenses turned positive, reaching 1.112 billion yuan compared to a negligible amount in the previous year, reflecting increased interest expenses and exchange losses.

Asset-Liability Structure and Cash Flow

As of September 30, 2026, GAC Group’s total assets stood at 234.629 billion yuan, with owner’s equity attributable to the parent company at 98.08 billion yuan. The asset-liability ratio was approximately 57%, an increase of about 8 percentage points from the end of the previous year. While the operating cash flow recorded a net outflow, the year-on-year reduction of 12.6% suggests a marginal improvement in cash flow conditions.

Non-Recurring Items and Profit Drivers

Non-recurring gains and losses for the first three quarters totaled 1.616 billion yuan. This was mainly driven by a fair value change gain on financial assets of 1.753 billion yuan and investment income of 2.492 billion yuan, which partially offset the losses from the main business operations. Asset impairment losses, amounting to -1.354 billion yuan, increased year-on-year and were a significant factor contributing to the profit decline.

Outlook and Market Position

GAC Group faces multiple challenges, including intense domestic market competition, increased sales investment for new self-owned brand models, pressure on joint venture brand operations, exchange rate fluctuations leading to translation losses, and increased inventory write-downs. Analysts’ forecasts for the full-year 2026 net profit attributable to the parent company are around -4.82 billion yuan. The current Price-to-Book (PB) ratio is approximately 0.5 times, which is at a historically low level. However, short-term profitability is under significant pressure, and investment value will depend on the sales recovery of self-owned brands and the pace of profit recovery for joint venture brands.

AI Interpretation: GAC Group’s operating revenue for the first three quarters of 2026 exceeded some institutional expectations. However, the net loss attributable to parent company shareholders was significantly larger than market consensus, indicating overall performance below expectations.
