Apple has announced a revolutionary new MacBook Pro, featuring a PROLED XDR display that is already being hailed as the best laptop screen in the world. The new model also introduces Touch, a groundbreaking touch interface that fundamentally changes how users interact with content.
PROLED XDR: Unprecedented Image Quality
The new PROLED XDR display is the result of deep innovation across every layer, employing advanced algorithms within its display engine and meticulous factory calibration. Its tandem OLED technology delivers exceptional brightness, stunning contrast, and vibrant color saturation, offering professionals—from photographers and colorists to designers—a benchmark for image quality, no matter their work location.
The PROLED XDR achieves a peak brightness of up to 2000 nits for both HDR and SDR content. Its 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio ensures incredible detail, even in the deepest shadows. ProMotion technology intelligently adapts the screen’s refresh rate from 10Hz to 120Hz, providing fluid performance while optimizing power consumption.
The display covers the P3 color gamut and now also includes Adobe RGB, a critical feature for photography and design work. It offers over 80% Rec. 2020 coverage, essential for editing HDR video. An optional nano-textured anti-reflective coating further reduces glare, ensuring comfortable use even in bright lighting conditions.
Touch: A New Dimension of Interaction
For the first time, the MacBook Pro integrates a Touch-enabled touchscreen. Developed specifically for macOS, it provides instant response and intuitive control for tasks like scrolling web pages, zooming into images, dragging and dropping files, and resizing windows. The touch layer is built directly into the display panel, minimizing latency.
Touch unlocks new creative possibilities for professionals. Designers can use the entire screen as a canvas, musicians can play virtual instruments, and developers can test Touch features for iOS and iPadOS applications. A redesigned hinge mechanism offers enhanced stability, and a video stabilization feature improves call quality when using Touch.
Many Apple applications are already optimized for Touch, and macOS automatically translates taps into clicks. The system also provides an API for developers to create custom touch interactions. Third-party applications, including Notion, Canva, Zoom, Microsoft Office, Adobe Lightroom, DaVinci Resolve, Blender, Maxon Cinema 4D, Shapr3D, and Algoriddim djay Pro, will also gain support for these new capabilities.
M5 Pro and M5 Max Performance
The new MacBook Pro is powered by Apple’s most potent laptop chips for professionals: the M5 Pro and M5 Max. These chips deliver unprecedented CPU and GPU performance, along with faster unified memory. They are optimized for the most demanding tasks, including code compilation, artificial intelligence workloads, DNA sequencing, and editing 8K ProRes video. The M5 Max is particularly well-suited for 3D VFX artists, AI developers, and composers, enabling them to run large language models (LLMs) locally.
The integrated Neural Engine accelerates AI processing, while advanced GPUs featuring a ray-tracing engine provide photorealistic lighting and faster 3D rendering. Dynamic Caching technology enhances GPU utilization, delivering significant performance gains in applications like Blender, Unreal Engine, and games.
Other Innovations
The MacBook Pro features an updated six-speaker audio system with deeper bass and crystal-clear tweeters. Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos creates an immersive soundscape, and studio-quality microphones ensure high-fidelity audio for calls and recordings. For the first time, audio tuning is available for the laptop when used in closed-clamshell mode connected to an external display.
The device is thinner and lighter, with the 14-inch model weighing 1.36 kg (3 lbs) and the 16-inch model weighing 1.81 kg (4 lbs). The screen bezels have been narrowed, increasing the diagonal of the 16-inch model to 16.3 inches.
The new MacBook Pro is equipped with three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe, and an audio jack. The M5 Pro supports up to three external displays, while the M5 Max can drive up to four. Wireless connectivity is provided by Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. Touch ID ensures quick and secure login, and a fast-charge feature allows the device to reach 50% battery in just 30 minutes.
The MacBook Pro runs on macOS 27, integrating Siri AI, personalized Apple Intelligence features, and enhancements for stability and performance. Dynamic Island is now available on Mac, offering quick access to Spotlight, Live Activities, and Siri AI.
The device is constructed using 55% recycled materials, aligning with Apple’s commitment to carbon neutrality by 2030.
