Within just a few hours of its release, Blade of Shadows Zero recorded a peak concurrent player count of 431,541, according to data from SteamDB. At the time of reporting, the game ranked as the second most played title on Steam, surpassed only by Counter-Strike 2. Furthermore, it secured the top spot on Steam’s global best-selling list, marking a significant 16-position jump in its weekly ranking.
Early player reviews on Steam are largely positive, with the game currently holding a “Mostly Positive” rating. This reception indicates strong player satisfaction with the game’s dark martial arts aesthetic and action-packed gameplay.
Sales Projections and Comparisons
While official sales figures have not yet been released by S-Game, pre-launch estimates suggested that the game had already surpassed one million units sold. Rhys Elliott, an analyst at Alinea, projected that Blade of Shadows Zero has sold a combined total of 850,000 units across PC and PlayStation 5 platforms. Considering its release on the domestic Tencent WeGame platform as well, Elliott estimates that the total sales have significantly exceeded the one million mark.
Although these figures are impressive, they are still considerably lower than those of another prominent Chinese action game, Black Myth: Wukong. When Black Myth: Wukong launched in 2024, it achieved a peak of 2,415,714 concurrent players on Steam and is estimated to have sold over 30 million units cumulatively.
Elliott commented on X (formerly Twitter) that while he believes Blade of Shadows Zero may not reach the same heights as Black Myth: Wukong, he remains optimistic about its sales performance for the year, a projection already supported by the game’s strong launch numbers.
