Samsung Electronics has announced a significant update to its Samsung Health app, making its “Sleep Coaching” feature more accessible and its weekly recommendations more personalized. The update also introduces expanded training levels for its running programs, aiming to help users build more sustainable and healthier habits.

Sleep Coaching Made Easier and More Personalized

While sleep tracking provides insights into sleep quality, “Sleep Coaching” focuses on improving sleep by translating personal goals and sleep data into daily habits. Samsung has considerably simplified the initiation of sleep management, requiring users to provide only three days of data from the past two weeks to start “Sleep Coaching,” a reduction from the previous seven days within a month.

During setup, users complete a questionnaire covering sleep regularity, awakenings, alcohol and caffeine consumption, and subjective sleep satisfaction. Based on these responses and the three days of sleep data, the app assigns a personalized “Sleep Animal” character and creates an individualized four-to-eight-week coaching program aligned with personal goals. As users progress, the program dynamically adapts weekly recommendations to reflect changes in sleep patterns, daily sleep satisfaction, and lifestyle shifts.

Developed with principles of sleep behavioral science, the program offers users daily habit checklists and sleep tips, facilitating the formation of healthier routines such as avoiding screens an hour before bed, foregoing late-day caffeine, and stretching outdoors after waking.

Users can also expect more intuitive and detailed reports. A new five-point “Sleep Balance” graph consolidates five key sleep metrics—sleep duration, regularity, nighttime awakenings, satisfaction, and an “Energy Score”—for a quick overview of sleep trends and areas needing attention, based on data gathered or entered during sleep coaching. Daily morning insight reports that review the previous night’s sleep with actionable advice are closely integrated with weekly and final reports, providing a comprehensive view of sleep trends. By linking daily actions to this data-driven progress, Samsung Health assists users in establishing sustainable lifestyle habits for everyday well-being.

Enhanced Running Programs and Strava Route Integration

In response to the growing popularity of running, the “Running Coach” feature has been updated to offer a more dynamic and connected training experience. Training levels have been expanded from 10 to 12. While users continue to receive a personalized training plan based on a 12-minute run test or their historical running data, this update introduces new levels to support intermediate and advanced runners. These specialized training tiers allow them to set higher benchmarks, challenge themselves, and consistently improve their performance.

To celebrate achievements and foster motivation, “Running Coach” introduces an enhanced social sharing feature. Runners can easily export their workout data into shareable templates for various social platforms, simplifying the process of sharing milestones, personal bests, and routes with their fitness communities.

Samsung continues to strengthen its ecosystem connectivity through a partnership with Strava, a global fitness platform. Users can now import their favorite Strava routes for running, trail running, and cycling directly into Samsung Health. This integration supports interoperability and user convenience across both platforms.

“Samsung Health’s personalized coaching empowers users to understand their health data, taking a step towards supporting everyday well-being,” said Hon Pak, Senior Vice President and Head of Digital Health Business, Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics. “We will continue to leverage the Galaxy ecosystem and our technologies to create a robust health platform.”

These updated features will be rolled out progressively via Samsung Health app updates, beginning in October.
