Ubisoft has announced the final major content update for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag – Memory Reset, which is rolling out today at 14:00 UTC (22:00 Beijing Time) across all platforms.
New Game+ and Nightmare Mode Arrive
The headline feature of this update is the introduction of a New Game+ mode. This allows players to carry over a significant portion of their progress from their first playthrough into a fresh adventure. According to Ubisoft, players will retain:
- All of Edward’s tools, upgrades, unlocked weapons, and accessories.
- All of the Jackdaw’s upgrades, unlocked Commander skills, and pets.
- All gold coins, materials, and trade goods in the inventory.
- All unlocked customizable outfits and their options.
- Progress in Kenway’s fleet, including all ships.
- Shelter progress, skills, and art collections.
- Purchased items from the store.
- All encyclopedia entries, including treasure maps.
However, some elements will reset to ensure a challenging new experience. Commanders will need to be re-recruited, and a new currency will be used in New Game+. Main mission-related items will be cleared, the map fog will reset, and fortresses will need to be recaptured.
Increasing Difficulty
Ubisoft warns that each New Game+ cycle will make the seas more perilous. Expect an increased frequency of elite soldiers and fully upgraded ships patrolling the waters. The difficulty will progressively increase with each restart, with the mode supporting up to five New Game+ cycles (New Game+++++).
Brutal Nightmare Mode
For those seeking the ultimate challenge, the update also introduces Nightmare Mode. This mode promises a brutal fight for survival with no second chances. Enemies will react faster and deal more damage, making every encounter potentially your last. While the Caribbean scenery remains beautiful, death lurks beneath the waves and at the horizon for the unprepared.
This final major update offers both seasoned players a reason to return with New Game+ and a tougher challenge in Nightmare Mode, ensuring that the legendary pirate life of Edward Kenway continues to test even the most skilled captains.
