Cygames has announced that the free version of its fighting game, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, will cease operations on November 1st at 23:00.
As a farewell gesture, players will have the opportunity to experience all 38 characters from the full version of the game (excluding 2B) within the free version until the aforementioned end of service time. Typically, the free version only allows access to 4 characters: the main protagonist Gran and three others on a rotating schedule.
Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising is an enhanced iteration of the 2020 fighting game Granblue Fantasy Versus. It launched in December 2023 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Steam. In the Steam China region, the game is priced starting at 119 yuan and boasts an 83% positive review score, earning it a “Very Positive” rating.

This limited-time event offers a valuable chance for players to explore the complete roster of characters and engage with the full gameplay experience before the free version is no longer available. It serves as an excellent opportunity for newcomers to test the waters and for existing players to perhaps try out characters they haven’t played before.
The transition from a limited free experience to the full paid version is a common strategy in the gaming industry. It allows developers to attract a wider audience by lowering the initial barrier to entry, while also providing a robust offering for those who wish to invest further in the game’s content and features. The inclusion of all characters for a limited time is a particularly generous move, suggesting Cygames aims to provide a comprehensive taste of what the full game has to offer.
Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising builds upon the foundation of its predecessor, introducing new mechanics, characters, and refined gameplay systems. The game has been generally well-received, praised for its accessible yet deep combat, vibrant art style, and faithful adaptation of the popular Granblue Fantasy IP.
Players interested in taking advantage of this final opportunity should ensure they log in and experience the full roster before the service termination on November 1st. This move marks the end of an era for the free version, paving the way for continued engagement with the full release of Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising.
