OnePlus and BOE have officially launched the fourth-generation “Oriental Screen” (东方屏), a result of their joint research and development. Unveiled at a technical seminar on October 9th, this new display technology promises significant advancements in visual quality and performance.

Introducing the X4 Luminescent Material

At the heart of the fourth-generation Oriental Screen is the all-new X4 luminescent material. BOE claims this material delivers superior color accuracy, stable high refresh rates, increased brightness, lower power consumption, and extended lifespan. A standout feature is its true hardware 1-nit capability, ensuring a soft and comfortable viewing experience in low-light conditions without eye strain.

Industry-First Global 165Hz and 185Hz Refresh Rates

OnePlus China President Li Jie highlighted the upgrade to their proprietary display science production line, emphasizing that each sub-pixel of the X4 luminescent material undergoes a rigorous three-round hardware calibration process to meet “S-class pixel metrics.”

The fourth-generation Oriental Screen achieves an industry-first in its full-link, hardware-level global ultra-high refresh rate. This enables the world’s first “daily 165Hz” experience, meaning millions of mainstream mobile applications can now run at a buttery-smooth 165Hz. For gaming, the refresh rate can be pushed even further, reaching up to 185Hz.

Combined with a new LTPO ultra-high refresh rate circuit and the X4 luminescent material, the 165Hz performance is remarkably stable, providing a fluid visual experience while maintaining excellent brightness, color reproduction, and power efficiency. Real-world tests show that the fourth-generation Oriental Screen running at a global 165Hz consumes power comparable to the previous generation’s 120Hz display.

Furthermore, the 165Hz refresh rate on this new screen is designed to be free from flickering, color shifting, stuttering, and overheating, all while maintaining low power consumption.

Enhanced Visuals and Eye Protection

The fourth-generation Oriental Screen also introduces the “Ultra Dynamic Clarity Technology” (超动态清晰技术), a global first. Alongside the next-generation “Bright Eye Protection” (明眸护眼) feature and an upgraded all-scene solar display mode, the screen, coupled with OnePlus’s self-developed P4 super display chip, promises faster and clearer visuals for both daily use and high-frame-rate gaming.

OnePlus 16 to Feature the New Display

It has been confirmed that the upcoming OnePlus 16 smartphone will be the first device to feature this 185Hz fourth-generation Oriental Screen. The phone will sport an extremely narrow 1.15mm bezel on all four sides. The official launch event for the OnePlus 16 is scheduled for October 12th at 19:00.
