OnePlus has announced a new USB-C charging cable that does more than just transfer power and data from one device to another. The OnePlus 2-in-1 Supervooc Cable features a built-in male connector that can be used to charge the OnePlus Watch 3, Watch 2, and Watch 2R smartwatches, as well as a connected smartphone. This is a more convenient solution for travelers and can help reduce desk clutter by eliminating at least one extra charging cable.
It is currently available on the OnePlus online store for $29.99 and comes in a single version that is just over 47 inches long. That’s the same price as the OnePlus watch charging base, which doesn’t actually come with a USB-C cable, potentially making the new 2-in-1 solution an even better deal.
The 2-in-1 Supervooc Cable can deliver up to 80W of power when connected to a single device, such as a laptop or smartphone. When you connect a smartwatch, the power is distributed between them: up to 10 W to the watch and up to 67 W to any other device connected via USB-C.
The functionality of the charging cable is similar to the universal Apple Watch cable that Nomad released earlier this year. This cable has a built-in magnetic charger for the Apple Watch at one end and a much higher price tag of $100. But instead of accusing OnePlus of stealing Nomad’s idea, we should be encouraging other cable manufacturers to follow suit. Assuming it’s technically possible, a multifunctional USB-C charging cable with a built-in wireless charging puck would be incredibly useful.
