Xiaomi’s Mijia brand is set to launch its new Metal Travel Luggage, with crowdfunding kicking off on October 21st. Priced at 1699 yuan (approximately $230 USD), this premium suitcase will be available in two stylish finishes: silver and titanium gold.
Premium Design and Materials
The Mijia Metal Travel Luggage features the brand’s signature horizontal stripe design on its exterior. The body is constructed from a robust combination of a high-performance 6-series aluminum-magnesium-silicon alloy frame and a 5-series aluminum-magnesium alloy shell. Notably, it employs a rivet-free frame construction, contributing to a sleek and seamless appearance. Xiaomi emphasizes the intricate manufacturing process, stating that the suitcase undergoes approximately 150 steps, highlighting the demanding requirements for both material and craftsmanship.
Engineered for Smooth Travel
In collaboration with HINOMOTO, Mijia has developed silent universal wheels designed for a quiet and effortless rolling experience. These wheels incorporate an internal metal independent shock absorption structure, and have reportedly received SGS silent wheel certification. Laboratory tests indicate that the wheels exhibit less than 2mm of wear after 72 kilometers of travel and generate noise levels below 43 decibels. Furthermore, they have passed a 6x national standard test for universal wheel performance.
The pull rod is crafted from aerospace-grade 6-series aluminum-magnesium-silicon alloy, finished with a high-polish treatment. Xiaomi claims that the rod remains smooth even after 18,000 retraction and extension cycles, having passed a 6x national standard fatigue test. The rod also offers four adjustable height settings to accommodate users of different heights.
Smart Storage and Security
With a stated capacity of approximately 37 liters, the Mijia Metal Travel Luggage is designed to be suitable for 3 to 5-day trips. Inside, the suitcase features a dual-sided U-zipper closure system and two separate compartments. The interior lining is made from peach velvet fabric, which the company claims also possesses antibacterial properties. For security, it is equipped with a one-button central control TSA combination lock, allowing users to open both locks simultaneously with a single press, simplifying security checks and access to belongings.
