Zhipu AI has officially announced the open-sourcing of its latest large language model, GLM-5.3. The model weights are now available for download, supporting local deployment and personalized customization. GLM-5.3 demonstrates strong capabilities in complex coding tasks, advanced network security defense, and handling long-context requirements.
Enhanced Capabilities and Accessibility
Li Zixuan, head of Zhipu Z.ai, stated that the use of GLM-5.3 requires adherence to its licensing agreement. The model supports local deployment, fine-tuning, and commercial use. A specific condition for commercial entities is that organizations with an annual turnover exceeding $10 billion USD (approximately 67.421 billion RMB) must undergo a security review if they intend to offer GLM-5.3 as an external model service.
Recognizing the model’s advanced network security features, Zhipu AI conducted a comprehensive two-week security evaluation specifically before the public release of the model weights. This proactive measure underscores the company’s commitment to responsible AI deployment.
Performance Benchmarks
According to previously released data, GLM-5.3 has achieved a score of 60 in the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index (AA Index), a globally recognized benchmark for artificial intelligence. This score positions GLM-5.3 within the leading tier of global models, placing it on par with proprietary flagship models such as Claude Fable 5 and GPT-5.6 Sol. Furthermore, it ranks as a co-leader among open-source models, alongside Kimi K3.
The AA Index evaluates a model’s comprehensive capabilities in real-world complex tasks, covering areas like knowledge, reasoning, coding, and agent performance. Despite achieving this high level of intelligence, GLM-5.3 offers a significantly lower barrier to entry for accessing cutting-edge AI capabilities, thanks to its smaller parameter size and reduced calling costs.
